Settings: Mobile vs Web Guide

Settings control game options and behavior across Cookie Clicker platforms; they let you adjust gameplay conveniences, display preferences, and platform-specific features that affect how the game runs and what UI elements are available.

Where to find Settings

  • Web/Steam: Settings appear in the top-right menus and as part of the in-game tabs and menus.
  • Mobile: Settings are located inside the "Misc" tab. On mobile the interface is tab-based (Cookie, Store, Special, Stats, Misc) and Settings are accessed from Misc.

Categories of settings

Settings generally fall into these categories:

  • Gameplay toggles and convenience options
    • Enable/disable shimmers, notifications, or other on-screen effects.
    • Toggle features like power clicks (mobile-specific) or quick buttons.
  • Display and interface
    • Switch between visible tabs (mobile uses full-screen dedicated tabs; web shows three persistent tabs).
    • Adjust whether certain UI elements are shown (e.g., milk, achievements/notifications).
  • Save and data
    • Export and import save data, view or copy the decoded save string.
    • Wipe save (mobile exposes a “Wipe save” option — note: this is not the same as ascending).
  • Platform- or version-specific options
    • Mobile-only options described below.

Mobile-specific settings and layout differences

  • Tabbed layout: Mobile dedicates the whole screen to one tab at a time. Tabs are Cookie, Store, Special, Stats, and Misc. The middle tab present on web is not present on mobile.
    • Cookie: Big Cookie, Wrinklers, and the only place shimmers spawn.
    • Store: Buildings and upgrades.
    • Special: Legacy, Bingo Center, Krumblor, Season Switcher and other special features.
    • Stats: Full statistics, past events, news, upgrades, achievements, and Milk display.
    • Misc: Tips, non-gameplay features, Settings, About, Version history, Wipe save, Alpha status and switching options.
  • Quick buttons and Power clicks:
    • Mobile includes Quick buttons (4 buttons that appear bottom-right of the Cookie screen) which are unlocked via Power clicks.
    • Power clicks and related heavenly upgrade changes (including a mobile-specific change to Fortune #102) modify how tapping the big cookie behaves on mobile.
  • Free upgrade roll spots:
    • In mobile the rolling pin graphic at the top of "Special", "Stats" and "Misc." can spawn free upgrades when rolled. The Misc section additionally contains a small Orteil figure area which can also produce free upgrades.
    • These free upgrades can be seasonal cookies (Christmas, Halloween, etc.) or fortune upgrades; they must still be unlocked and purchased from the shop.
  • The game save is a long encoded string split into sections with vertical bars. The decoded save follows a fixed section structure that includes:
    • Version number
    • Reserved fields for future use
    • Unix timestamps: session started, legacy start, and save creation time (timestamps are in milliseconds; divide by 1000 to convert to standard Unix time).
    • Further sections contain game state data (buildings, upgrades, achievements, and other persistent information).
  • Settings and platform flags are stored in the save string; wiping or importing a save will restore whatever settings are encoded there.

Notes on platform parity and exclusive content

  • Mobile contains exclusive UI and input features (Quick buttons, Power clicks, rolling-pin free-upgrade spots) not present on web/Steam builds.
  • Some achievements and mechanics are adjusted on mobile to match touch input (for example, the method for the cookie-dunker achievement is altered to a drag-and-drop/multi-touch interaction).

Use Settings to tailor your play experience to your device and preferences; on mobile you’ll find additional touch-oriented options and UI differences that require checking Misc for all available toggles.
