Unstable Flask

A failed chemistry concoction. Explodes with unpredictable effects when thrown.
Overview

Because the flask’s result is random rather than fixed, it functions as a high-variance tool rather than a precision weapon. Players carry it for moments when uncertainty or disruption is acceptable — for example, to break stalemates, introduce chaos into enemy positions, or create opportunities that fixed tools cannot. The flask is a single-use item that requires throwing to trigger; it does not activate by being dropped or by proximity unless the game’s mechanics treat thrown items as explosive on contact.
Practical considerations and best practices:
- Expect the unexpected: plan for multiple possible outcomes and avoid relying on the flask for consistent damage, status effects, or crowd control.
- Use with caution around allies and delicate objectives: because the effects are unpredictable, the flask can harm friendly forces or destroy nearby valuables if used in confined or populated areas.
- Prefer expendable or controlled environments for testing: if you want to learn the range of outcomes, throw the flask into isolated space or against noncritical targets to observe its behavior without strategic cost.
- Tactical unpredictability: the item is most valuable when surprise or disruption outweighs precision. It can force opponents to reposition or react to sudden, uncharacterized hazards.
- Disposal and timing matter: throwing the flask away from your own position reduces the risk of accidental self-harm. Time throws so that the explosion affects the intended area rather than dissipating harmlessly.
