block-liquid-void

Overview

Liquid Void is a block that removes liquids from the map by consuming any liquid piped or flowed into it. It functions as an endpoint for liquid plumbing where you want to permanently dispose of unwanted fluids such as water, oil, cryofluid, or sludge. Placed in a network, it accepts liquid from adjacent pipes, valves, or pumps and deletes it rather than storing or outputting it elsewhere.

Because of how the game's liquid mechanics operate, a Liquid Void cannot completely drain the contents of a Liquid Source block when connected directly: the source will tend to retain a small amount of its output and may not be reduced to zero. For practical purposes this means using a Liquid Void to dispose of ongoing production is fine, but it is not a guaranteed way to fully empty a source tile; consider using additional pumps or rerouting flow to manage residual amounts.

  • Place Liquid Voids at the ends of waste lines or next to production buildings that generate unwanted byproduct liquids.
  • They are useful in preventing overflow of tanks and pipes by providing a sink for excess liquids.
  • When trying to "stop" a source from providing any liquid, pair voids with pumps/valves and be aware that a tiny amount can remain due to source mechanics; monitor connected tanks or source tiles if you need near-complete removal.
