Beginner Guide: Spawn, Forest Caves & First Boss Tips
Necesse is an action-RPG / base-building survival game where you start as a lone player beside the Elder's House. This beginner guide covers what to do in your first minutes and first hours: where you spawn, basic inventory and gear, safety and immediate goals, and the nearby low-difficulty underground area you should use to learn combat and looting.
First steps: your starting location and UI
- You spawn next to the Elder's House. Enter that house immediately to orient yourself and to check the User Interface and Controls.
- Open your inventory to inspect the Starting inventory. This contains basic items that let you equip, craft, eat, and explore. Learn the hotkeys to move items, equip gear, and use consumables.
- When joining a multiplayer world for the first time you create a Player character; in singleplayer you begin with the provided starting character.
Early objectives and priorities
- Explore the small area around the Elder's House. This zone contains chests and immediate resources you should collect before venturing far.
- Collect basic materials from the surrounding forest — wood, plant materials, and early consumables — to prepare for crafting and survival.
- Craft or equip simple tools and weapons as soon as possible so you can gather more resources and defend yourself.
Inventory, gear, and consumables
- Familiarize yourself with slots: equip armor and weapons, carry materials, and reserve space for loot from caves or monsters.
- Keep food/consumables on hand to heal and restore stamina/health during fights.
- Before heading into caves, make sure you have:
- Basic weapons/armor from your starting chest or crafted from immediate materials.
- A stack of food or consumables to avoid dying and to reduce trips back to base.
Forest Caves — your first underground zone
- The Forest Caves are directly under the Forest Biomes and are the lowest-difficulty underground area. The nearest entrance is the Cave Ladder in the side room of the Elder's House — this makes them perfect for beginners.
- Monsters here are low difficulty; among notable foes is the Giant Cave Spider. Use the caves to practice combat, experiment with weapons, and gather loot.
- Forest Caves contain Mysterious Portals. These portals are important: bringing one to the surface lets you summon the first boss,
Evil's Protector, when you are ready.
- Loot available in Forest Caves includes a wide variety of materials, equipment, consumables, vinyls, and non-craftable objects. Looting here lets you upgrade gear and stockpile materials for crafting.
Combat and safety tips
- Fight cautiously. Use hit-and-run tactics if you lack strong armor: strike, back away to heal or eat, then re-engage.
- Clear caves room by room to avoid being surrounded.
- If overwhelmed, retreat to the surface via the cave ladder and regroup; dying wastes time and resources.
Preparing for the first boss
- Only attempt to summon Evil's Protector after you have:
- Collected upgraded gear and consumables from Forest Caves.
- Practiced combat enough to survive multiple encounters.
- Use Mysterious Portals from Forest Caves to trigger the boss on the surface.
Quick checklist before exploring caves
- Open and review your inventory and controls.
- Take all items from the starting chest.
- Craft or equip a basic weapon and some armor.
- Stock a stack of food/consumables.
- Learn where the Cave Ladder in the Elder’s House side room is; this is the closest entrance to the Forest Caves.
This covers the practical, immediate steps for a new player: know your spawn, secure basic gear and food, use the nearby Forest Caves to learn combat and collect loot, and only attempt boss summoning after you feel prepared.
