Farming Guide: Seeds, Biomes & Farmer Progression

Farming provides a steady supply of food, crafting ingredients, and decorative plants in Necesse. Crops, flowers, saplings and mushrooms are grown from seeds or saplings found in biomes and underground, and many become available for purchase from the Farmer after certain bosses are defeated.

Basics: what you grow and why

Obtaining seeds, saplings and plants

  • Early-game staples (Wheat, Corn, Tomato, Cabbage) appear in Forest Caves and are also available from the Farmer at world start.
  • Desert-only and later crops (Rice, Carrot, Strawberry, Coffee Beans) are found in Desert or Deep Desert Caves.
  • Swamp and Snow caves supply Swamp/Cold crops (Eggplant, Potato, Chili Pepper, Sugar Beet, Pumpkin).
  • Deep Caves and Deep Biomes contain rarer seeds: Onion (Deep Forest/Deep Swamp), Pumpkin (Deep Snow/Deep Swamp), Strawberry (Deep Snow/Deep Desert), Coffee Beans (Deep Desert), Caveglow (Deep Forest/Deep Swamp).
  • Some seeds are tied to boss progression for Farmer availability: e.g., Strawberry is purchasable after defeating Cryo Queen; Onion after defeating Reaper; Coffee Beans after Sage and Grit; Rice after Ancient Vulture.
  • Seeds and saplings also appear in underground chests, Treasure Rooms, Stone Coffins, Grave loot, Ruins and biome-specific chests. Cave Croppler drops Beet seeds.
  • Villages and surface biomes may offer collectible flowers and sunflower seeds by cutting plants in those biomes.

Where to farm (locations and logistics)

  • Place farmland near your base for easy access. Farmland supports crops and mushrooms when planted on it.
  • Underground Ruins, Caves and Deep Caves are reliable sources of seeds and saplings; bringing Waystones or a Homestone network speeds repeated farming of biome-specific spawns.
  • For early progression, Forest Caves are the easiest to clear and provide basic seeds. Deep Caves/biomes are higher risk but yield rarer seeds and saplings (e.g., Lemon saplings in Deep Forest chests).

Crop availability and progression

Special plants and drops

  • Mushrooms: obtainable in Villages, Swamp biome and Swamp Caves; they can be grown by placing them on Farmland.
  • Caveglow: spawn/sprout found in Deep Forest or Deep Swamp Caves and can be farmed as a light/flower source.
  • Flowers like Firemone and Iceblossom are obtained by cutting their wild plants in Forest or Snow biomes or Villages.
  • Some enemy encounters drop crop seeds directly (for example, defeating Cave Croppler yields Beet seeds).

Purchasing from the Farmer

  • The Farmer sells many seeds; additional seed availability is gated by boss defeats. Buying from the Farmer is the easiest way to bulk up seed stocks once those bosses are defeated.

Tips and best practices

  • Build a secure, well-lit farm area to prevent monsters from trampling or blocking access.
  • Use Waystones and Homestones to create a portal network between biomes and your base so you can repeatedly visit specific caves for rare seed hunting without long travel.
  • Explore Treasure Rooms, Ruins and biome chests — they reliably drop seeds, saplings, fruits and potions useful for farming runs.
  • Keep seed variety: some recipes and achievements require many crop types, so collect and plant crops from different biomes as you progress.
  • Guard and decorate farms with fences and paths; some flowers are biome-specific, so maintain small biome-themed garden plots if you collect many varieties.

This covers the core farming flow: where seeds come from, how to obtain biome-locked and boss-gated varieties, and practical setup and progression advice for sustaining food and plant resources.
