Overview

The item's role in play is that of an emergency or disposable weapon. Players obtain and use a 

- Immediate purpose: designed for stabbing and improvised close-quarters engagements. Handle it as a direct melee option rather than a versatile tool.
- Durability: the
Shiv does not last. Expect it to degrade rapidly with repeated use and to require replacement after only a few actions.
- Inventory role: treat a
Shiv as a consumable or temporary slot item. Keep it as a backup when primary weapons are lost, need repair, or are otherwise unusable.
- Tactical use: deploy a
Shiv in short encounters or as a means to get out of sudden danger. Avoid relying on it for extended fights or against well-armored opponents; its short lifespan makes prolonged engagements inefficient.
- Resource management: because Shivs are inexpensive to produce or commonly improvised, prioritize conserving higher-quality weapons and replacing Shivs when they break rather than attempting repairs that exceed their intended service life.
- Pairing and contingency planning: carry a more durable melee or ranged weapon whenever possible and reserve the
Shiv for situations where speed or stealth of acquisition matters more than reliability.
