Hand Cannon

Hand Cannon is a ranged weapon that is obtained either as a drop from Pirate Captain or by purchasing it from Broken Pirate. It uses Cannonball ammunition instead of normal Bullet ammunition, making it a high-cost weapon to keep supplied, but it offers explosive attacks with unusual utility.

Its shots explode on impact. The explosion does not damage the world, but it does damage the user, so it must be handled carefully at close range. The explosion deals much less damage than a direct hit, but it can still damage enemies through walls, which gives Hand Cannon a niche as a weapon for hitting targets behind cover or around corners.

Because each Cannonball costs 1 Iron Bar, the weapon is expensive to feed over time, and it is heavily recommended to equip the Ammo Box trinket while using it. This helps offset the ammo cost and makes the weapon more practical for extended fights.

Cannonballs can be crafted at a Tungsten Anvil, producing 1 Cannonball from 1 Iron Bar while holding a Hand Cannon. This means the weapon is tied directly into late early-game or mid-game progression, both through its acquisition and through its ammo requirements.

• The explosion can hurt the player, so avoid firing too close to yourself or in tight spaces.
• The direct hit is much stronger than the splash explosion.
• The explosion does not destroy terrain, making it safe to use near structures.
• Its ability to damage through walls can be useful against enemies that are hard to reach directly.
