Apiary

Apiary is a crafting station used to produce Honey. It must be placed as a hive and then supplied with a Queen Bee before it begins generating Honey. Once active, it can gradually build up a population of Honey Bees, which increases production over time.

An Apiary can also fill itself more actively under the right conditions. If a hive is completely full and attempts to create a new worker, there is a small chance that a Queen Bee swarm will spawn instead. That swarm takes half of the hive’s population and moves into a nearby empty Apiary if one is detected within a 5-50 tile radius. This makes nearby empty Apiaries useful for expanding production without needing to manually seed every new hive from scratch.

Honey production is tied to the number of Honey Bees in the Apiary, and the player can manually add Honey Bees up to a total of 20, counting any that are already inside. Production speed can also be increased with Apiary Frames, up to 5 frames total. Each frame increases output, but one Apiary Frame is consumed for every 2 Honey produced, so they must be replaced as the hive keeps working.

• Only the Animal Keeper with Animal Husbandry can collect Honey from Apiaries.
