Mindustry may be difficult for newcomers or people who want to try a new type of game. Certain mechanics can be confusing for newbies, so we've gathered a bunch of tips, tricks and strategies for anyone who is finding it difficult to progress.

Priorities

  • You should always have some things prioritized when landing on a new sector, for very early game sectors like Ground Zero or Frozen Forest, securing a source of and as soon as possible should be high in a priority list, allowing blocks to built much quicker and saving valuable time.

  • Search for the enemy drop point immediately. After finding it, make sure to close off any secondary paths the enemies might get with walls to create a chokepoint (leave an opening for enemies to go through but have it as heavily fortified as possible).

  • For later sectors, you can set a custom loadout where you can start with resources you brought from the launch sector. It is advised to bring a full core of and , as well as full core of other resources (though optional).

  • Limited resources like leftover and from deconstructing some Derelict blocks should be stockpiled to make Separators or Disassemblers, which can create more and (especially in sectors without either resources in veins) at a renewable pace without needing Launch Pads.

  • One of the best turrets for early game is the 电弧 and 火焰, (don't forget air defense with the 分裂) which can easily clean up hordes of T1 or a small squad of T2 just fine as you make more resources and upgrade your defense to higher tech such as Lancers and Fuses.

  • The 独影 is a Support 空气 Unit which automatically mines ores such as and . This massively helps with the economy, and very useful in places where there are less spaces to build drills. They are quite cheap, only needing some and , as well as to make the factory itself. They can easily be upgraded into the 幻型 with the 数增级单位重构工厂, only needing and 石墨 as input. Polies are incredibly useful and can massively speed up your building speed, as well as being able to heal blocks and mine ores.

  • When you're sufficiently technologically advanced, it is useful to make a Core Schematic, a schematic which you can select on the launch screen, which will be pre-built if you chose to select it. For a 终代核心, the maximum size of the Core schematic is 15x15 tiles. It is useful to make a T3 schematic, with RTG 发电机 as power and resources extracted directly from the Core for a large army to build up without extra prep, or a pure defense schematic where obscene amounts of turrets are placed and the Unattended Sector Defense mechanic is relied upon to defeat difficult enemies.

  • After capturing vulnerable sectors, it is important to be prepared for more fighting with enemies. You can either choose to destroy the Enemy Base to prevent reattacks, or standing your ground and upgrade your defense, such as 雷光-spamming, which is incredibly effective even against T5 attacks.

Sectors V7

  • After capturing Ground Zero, 175 should be conquered next, as it is very rich in resources such as 煤炭 and (though is only obtainable after Frozen Forest). With the help of Launch Pads later in game, you can even make 塑钢 and 巨浪合金 here very efficiently (175 is one of the best sectors for producing 巨浪合金).

  • There are also a few sectors that are very rich in mid-late game resources early to mid-game, as well as not being vulnerable to enemies include, such as:

Because of the new mechanic thet only allow 次代核心 and Nucleus on the starting sector to launch to numbered sector, 125 is the only option as it's close to 218 which is close to The 陨石坑 (which you can upgrade your core to foundation there). Before Build 152, 218 itself has which means players can straight forward launch there from The 陨石坑. but since Build 152, the thorium deposit at 218 was removed and now 218 is on-par with 222 from V7.

Schematics

  • Schematics are very useful and a widely used feature in Mindustry, it is a pastable blueprint for structures, such as factories, unit infrastructure, power infrastructure, and defense systems. Having a copy of a useful contraption ready to be pasted is always important, especially in starting waves where you need to quickly secure basic resources and defenses. Making schematics from scratch is quite hard, and it's usually better to just copy a blueprint from the web. The official Mindustry Discord server has plenty of useful schematics, but be careful when selecting which schematics to download.

  • Tips to make your own schematics:

Make it cheap: As it's commonly used in the early-game of a sector, it is important for it to be reasonably cheap to build, so it takes less time in general and more time to prepare against enemies. Unreasonably expensive schematics is often marked with the 💸 emoji on Discord.

  • Make it space-efficient: You should condense your schematic as much as you can without belts clogging. This is easily one of the hardest parts in making a schematic, especially in complex schematics such as making 巨浪合金 or using the 瘤变反应堆. You might want to consider using bridges or unloaders to move items around instead of conveyors, which would be much more efficient and more aesthetically pleasing.

  • Consider the ratios and throughput: You should memorize the ratios of several different blocks, as well as the throughput needed for them. A bad ratio conversion makes your schematic very slow and inefficient, and in some cases, explode! Here are some common ratios you'll want to learn:

  • Memorize where each resource goes: It is important for your machines to not clog with the wrong resources in the belt. Whilst many newbies would use a 分类器 and 焚化炉 to clear muddled belts, this is incredibly inefficient and a waste of resources and power. You might want to visualize where each resources go by drawing arrows or test it out on a Sandbox world. Remember to not put belts or all-directional blocks such as Routers and Bridge inputs right next to a factory block - the output will clog into the input and disable the schematic.

  • All of these can be pasted when selecting import->import from clipboard, so do not hesitate to add them to your arsenal.

Organization

Not everyone in the Mindustry community starts out making "spaghetti" bases, but there are still many players who leave their bases horribly unorganized, messy, and hard to see what is going on. It is actually quite simple to make organized bases.

  • If multiple conveyors are going the same way, place them next to each other. It is much more efficient to make "highways" than leaving conveyors scattered all over the place. You may usually have a lot of space to work with, but it still makes your bases look clean and presentable.

  • Do not scatter your factories everywhere, rather, have the resources needed transported over to a dedicated area where your factories are at.

  • DO NOT** mix two or more resources in the same conveyor, especially if they are going to factories. The only exceptions are when there are scarce amounts of resources heading to the core or resources just coming out of a 分离机 or 解离机.

Strategies and Tips

Planning and utilizing strategies in Mindustry is crucial to progress through the challenges that the game has to offer. You can always refer to the strategies sections for any sectors you have trouble with, but these are some general strategies that can be used for any sector.

  • Utilizing chokepoints is essential for sectors with multiple paths where the enemy might take any path. Use walls to block off all but one path, where all your defenses will be. Make sure to leave a gap where enemies will travel through, but not too big so your defenses are spread too thin.

Be very careful not to accidentally block off this gap or your run will likely be jeopardized, especially if your defenses are not on the shortest path between the drop point and your core.

  • Early on, it is very important to put a line of Scatters near your power supply(s), as Flares will prioritize power generation.

If in a tougher sector, putting Scatters near your factories is also important as Horizons will prioritize those blocks, especially ones that require power to function.

  • It is very important to focus on building defenses first. You may get taken by surprise if you try to get resources as quickly as possible. Only focus on getting basic resources (copper and lead) followed by building basic defenses. Make sure to analyze the enemy's moves and strength while beginning to industrialize your sector and improve defenses when needed.

Make sure to bring a loadout, even if a sector seems really easy. It will make things much more comfortable, especially during the start and first few waves.

  • USE THE PAUSE FEATURE! You have no idea how useful the pause button can be. It is basically required to use this button in higher-threat sectors, and it makes the defense-building phase of your attacks significantly easier. Do NOT ignore the pause feature. It may take more time to complete your attacks, but that time is worth everything.
