Official description

An electromagnetically charged projectile launcher. It's sort of like a pistol.

Overview

The Pipe Pistol is a makeshift firearm that fires craftable ammunition and is notable for trading speed and capacity for raw impact. Compared with the Security Pistol, it deals twice the damage, but it only holds a single round instead of eight. That makes it much slower to use in practice, and it is also less durable. On the other hand, it is easier to keep in working order, since it can be repaired with a much more common material, and its bullets can be crafted from common resources.

In combat, the Pipe Pistol is best treated as a deliberate, high-commitment sidearm rather than a rapid-response weapon. Because it must be reloaded after every shot, missed timing is costly, and sustained fire is not its strength. It rewards careful positioning and using each shot on a target that matters.

  • It has one-round capacity, so every shot is followed by a reload.
  • Its damage is higher than the Security Pistol’s, but its much lower capacity makes it far slower to use.
  • It is less durable than the Security Pistol, but easier to repair.
  • Its ammunition is craftable from common materials, making it practical to keep supplied.

The Pipe Pistol also overlaps with the Scrapshot in an important way: both weapons use the same craftable ammo and both hold a maximum of one shot. The key difference is their combat profile. The Scrapshot deals 12x9 damage for more than double the close-range damage, but it has a 1.5 second charge-up time before firing. The Pipe Pistol, by contrast, is the simpler of the two to deploy, with no charge-up mentioned, but it does not reach the Scrapshot’s burst potential.

That makes the Pipe Pistol a straightforward choice when you want a single powerful shot with inexpensive ammunition and easy repairs, while the Scrapshot is the more specialized option for close-range burst damage. If you are choosing between them, the Pipe Pistol offers reliability and simplicity, while the Scrapshot offers greater immediate lethality at the cost of a slower firing process.
