Overview

The Chancemaker is a late-game building in Cookie Clicker associated with luck, chance, and number symbolism. Its visual design uses a background of vertical stone pillars, with the buildings spaced at a fixed distance along the X axis. This layout is meant to make the Chancemakers appear anchored to the background, although that alignment no longer works correctly after the addition of javascript consoles.

Its iconography is built around dice imagery. The die icon used for the Chancemaker, as well as for some of its upgrades and achievements, shows the 1, 4, and 2 faces of a die; those values sum to 7, a number often considered lucky. The building also has a related background image and a dedicated upgrade image for Lucky Grandma.

A notable theme of the Chancemaker is the number 13. Most of its upgrade prices are tied to 13 in some way, reflecting the stereotypical association of 13 with bad luck. One exception is Your lucky cookie, which costs 260 quadrillion; that amount is still divisible by 13. Lucky Grandma is also significant in this pattern, since it is the 13th grandma upgrade in the game.

  • The Chancemaker’s upgrade set is heavily themed around luck and unlucky numbers.
  • The fixed spacing of the building row is a deliberate visual effect, though it is currently broken in practice.
  • The die motif reinforces the building’s gambling and chance theme.
  • Chancemakers are carnivores, according to commentary from Orteil.
