Cursor

The Cursor is the cheapest building in Cookie Clicker Classic, and its function is simple: it auto-clicks the Big Cookie for the player. It is the first building the player can buy, costing 15 cookies at base price.

In Classic, Cursor output scales from the number owned rather than from click-related effects. Its production is treated as CpS, so it is not increased by upgrades or effects that improve manual clicking. After the 0.124 update, purchasing Elder Pledge changes Cursor output: the first Cursor bought after that point gains an extra +1, and each later Cursor gains +1.5 more than before. The standard production formula is:

• Cookies per 5 seconds = number of Cursors × 1.5 − 0.5
• equivalently, CpS = number of Cursors × 0.3 − 0.1

Because the Cursor is so cheap, it is mainly useful as an early-game starter building, but it also keeps mattering later for building-based synergies and achievements. In the alternate reality update, the finger upgrades changed to multiplicative stacking, making them much stronger as a group while reducing their value as a single standalone boost.

A few practical notes stand out:

• Cursors are the only buildings that do not unlock a Grandma upgrade.
• The optimal Cursor-to-Grandma ratio for the Elder Scrolls achievement is 400:377.
• Cursor movement when clicking the Big Cookie follows a spiral pattern.
• There are four Cursor sprites, but two of them are unused.
• Under normal limits, the game only allows about 5060 cursors before the price becomes infinite; more can only be obtained through cheating, and the game would become unstable from lag long before the theoretical hard limit is reached.

The Cursor’s basic description makes it sound like it directly clicks the Big Cookie, but in practice its output is simply counted as building production. That makes it an important example of how Cookie Clicker separates visible behavior from the underlying production system: the Cursor looks like a click helper, but mechanically it is a CpS generator.
