Overview
The Factory is the third-cheapest building the player can purchase. In Cookie Clicker Classic, it produces 20 cookies every 5 seconds, starts at 500 cookies, and its price increases by 10% with each additional purchase. It is part of the early midgame building progression and serves as one of the first major passive production sources beyond the lowest-tier structures.
Buying the first Factory also improves
The Factory is often remembered for its place in the game’s progression history. In Cookie Clicker Classic, Mines were unlocked after Factories, but this order was later changed so that Mines came earlier. That makes the Factory a more important milestone in the original Classic structure than in later versions, where its position in the purchase ladder was adjusted.
- The Factory was once tied to a beta feature: having 50 Factories on v.1.037 beta unlocked Dungeons.
- Factories were intended to be the first buildings with dungeons, although that broader minigame plan changed over time.
- The flavor text “Universal automation” may be a reference to the final building.
- The Factory has a set of gallery images associated with it, including its store icon, background, and Worker Grandma artwork.
Because its cost rises quickly with repeated purchases, the Factory rewards early investment but becomes increasingly expensive to scale. Its Grandma synergy makes the first purchase especially valuable, since the bonus applies immediately and can slightly improve the efficiency of that building line for the rest of the run.
