Ranching Guide: Animal Care & Setups

Ranching in Core Keeper is the art of raising livestock and pets to turn the underground wilderness into a dependable source of food, materials, and convenience. A good ranch lets you gather milk, wool, and other creature products without relying on the risks of hunting wild animals.

Livestock and creature products

Different ranch creatures provide different resources, and each one supports a different part of your progression.

Mulin

Mulin are violet bovines that live on meadows, graze peacefully, and produce milk. Their milk is valued for its unusual effect: it does not taste like the milk from home and leaves a earthy aftertaste, but it makes the drinker feel much sturdier afterward.

Mulin calves are born as baby Mulin and grow quickly, so breeding and raising them is an important part of maintaining a productive herd.

Bambuck

Bambuck provide wool, which is used in crafting equipment such as armor and backpacks. They are one of the main reasons to keep a livestock pen running even after you have enough food from other sources.

Breeding and offspring

Ranching is not just about collecting from adult animals; it also depends on managing growth and offspring.

  • Baby livestock grow quickly, so new generations can become productive in a short time.
  • A herd can include distinctive color variants, and those traits can appear in newborns.

Observed variants include:

  • a white Rakakulda
  • a purple Odanagomushi
  • a pink Bambuck
  • a yellow baby Mulin born from a purple parent

These color differences make ranches feel more alive and help distinguish individual animals at a glance.

Animal care and safe keeping

Keeping creatures in a ranch means providing a safe, controlled place for them to live. Ranch animals are described as living away from danger, grazing calmly, and thriving when left in stable conditions.

Caring for them properly ensures they continue to produce useful resources and keeps your livestock from being lost to the many hazards of the underground world.

Pets and resting

Ranching also connects to companion animals. During exploration, you can bring only one pet with you at a time; if you try to manage more, it becomes easy to lose track of them. Because of that, a comfortable bed for off-duty pets is useful.

Providing a resting place lets your other pet relax at base while you are away, making it easier to keep multiple companions happy over time.
