The Undergrounds

Overview

The biome is made up mainly of Dirt, Turf, and Sand blocks, which are soft enough to break with bare hands or a weak pickaxe. Normal water is common here, forming rivers and lakes throughout the terrain.
Because it is the starting area, the Undergrounds is usually the first place where players gather early resources and meet the game’s simplest hostile creatures and critters. It can also contain unique terrain-related items and fishing catches tied to normal water in the biome. As the safest and most familiar region, it often functions as the player’s first long-term base area before they push outward into more dangerous biomes.
A few practical details stand out when exploring the Undergrounds:
- Its terrain is easy to reshape early on, since the common blocks can be broken with basic tools.
- Normal water in this biome supports its own fishing results.
- The biome is the only one that does not show its name in the top-right of the fullscreen map.
- Small Meadow patches may interrupt the otherwise dirt-heavy landscape.
- Even though it is the starting biome, it still contains enough variety to support early exploration, gathering, and base-building.
