Ranching in Dinkum is the system for raising farm animals, keeping them healthy, and breeding them for a steady supply of products and offspring. It saves money over time, improves animal yields, and lets you replace older stock with new baby animals instead of continually buying replacements from Irwin’s Barn.

Getting started

To begin ranching, unlock the appropriate Animal Breeding License, buy baby animals from Irwin’s Barn, place them in a fenced enclosure, and keep them healthy.

Animal Breeding License

• Lv.1 unlocks the recipe for the hatching device used to breed chickens.
• Lv.2 unlocks Breeding Powder, which can be fed to male animals to encourage breeding.

Raising animals

At Irwin’s Barn, the animals available for purchase increase as your Animal Breeding License level increases.

Irwin’s Barn

Irwin’s Barn is the ranching shop. It sells livestock and ranching supplies, including feed and feeders.

Irwin is the resident who runs the shop.

Buying animals

The shop’s livestock selection expands with your Animal Breeding License level:

• Lv.1: chickens
• Lv.2: wombats
• Lv.3: platypuses

Keeping animals healthy

Animals become sick if they are left in poor conditions. A sick animal shows a green aura and stops producing items.

To keep animals healthy:

• Put food in an animal feeder so they can eat.
• Brush them with an animal brush to improve cleanliness.

Animals do not die from sickness, so if you do not need their products, you can leave them alone; however, healthy animals are required for consistent production.

Breeding

Breeding requires both a male and a female farm animal. When breeding is successful, they produce offspring.

Why breed

Breeding is useful because:

• Baby animals grow into young adults that produce lower-quality milk and cheese.
• You can sell animals with 5 hearts for the most dinks, then replace them with their offspring.
• It reduces the need to keep buying new animals from Irwin’s Barn.

Breeding Powder

Breeding Powder can be bought once you reach Animal Breeding License Lv.2. Giving it to a male animal helps promote breeding.

Ranching workflow

A simple ranching loop looks like this:

1. Unlock the needed licenses.
2. Buy baby animals from Irwin’s Barn.
3. Place them in an enclosed pasture with the right housing.
4. Feed them regularly.
5. Brush them to keep them clean.
6. Breed them to produce offspring and refresh your herd.
7. Sell older animals at 5 hearts when you are ready to replace them.
