multiplayer

Multiplayer in Dinkum lets you share a world with other players, but it also changes how some systems work compared with solo play. The basics are simple, yet a few platform-specific rules matter before you host or join.

Starting a multiplayer game

From the main menu, select multiplayer and choose the way you want to connect. After that, start the session using your own character data.

Multiplayer is launched from the menu rather than from inside an existing single-player session, so set up the character you want to use before entering a shared world.

Permissions and session settings

Multiplayer includes settings related to permissions. Use these to control what other players can do in your session and how much access they have while playing together.

Important difference from single-player

Pause is available through the Journal menu options in single-player, but it is not available in multiplayer. Sessions continue running normally while other players are connected.

Platform notes

The instructions here are based on the PC version. The Nintendo Switch version may differ in how multiplayer is handled.

On Switch, multiplayer also requires a subscription.
