Beam Link

Overview
Beam Link is a buildable block that transmits power across long distances by linking two nodes with a focused beam. It functions as a relay for the electrical network, allowing isolated grids to receive or lose power depending on the link's state and placement. Beam Links are primarily used on campaign maps and designed scenarios to control powering of specific bases or structures without physically wiring them together.
Beam Links were added in Build 136 and became available outside the editor in Build 147. The block has a fixed construction cost of 250
Silicon, 75
Phase Fabric, 75
Surge Alloy, 250
Beryllium, 150
Oxide, and 75 Carbide, and a build time of 16.20 seconds. Its effective power transmission range was reduced from 1000 to 500 in later balancing.
Beam Links appear on several official maps to create scripted or semi-automated power behavior. They are used to connect otherwise separate circuits so that destruction or disabling of one power source can cut power to linked structures; examples include linking player bases to remote generators or enabling an enemy base’s shield projectors until their power source is destroyed. On specific maps, Beam Links are placed to let entire installations share power briefly or to isolate large consumers onto a controlled circuit.
Practical notes for use and interactions:
- Beam Links create a directional power connection between two points; placing and aligning both ends is required for the beam to form and transmit energy.
- Because the link covers long distances, it enables powering remote outposts or centralized generators to service multiple isolated grids without building long power lines.
- Destroying or disabling the source side of a
Beam Link instantly deprives the linked grid of power, which can be used defensively (to depower enemy systems) or offensively (to shut off enemy shields and turrets). - Beam Links require
Phase Fabric to research; although they become unlocked during campaigns such as
Crossroads, players must have access to
Phase Fabric technology (obtained by research or by visiting other sectors) to build them. - The block’s substantial resource cost and build time make it a mid‑to‑late game utility; plan placement so the link delivers maximum strategic value rather than servicing low-priority consumers.
