Overview

Beam Node is a small power-transmission block used to route energy across short distances. It emits a visible beam to adjacent nodes and towers and functions as a compact connection point in power networks. Beam Nodes do not store charge themselves; they pass power through instantly and are often used where a precise, minimal footprint connection is required.

Beam Nodes connect to other Beam Nodes, Beam Towers, the Power Source, and the Power Void. They can connect along non-orthogonal directions as well as orthogonal ones, allowing angled links to be formed with other beam-based power blocks. Any connection that crosses a Plastanium Wall or a Diode is severed: these two blocks will break beam connections and the Beam Node cannot be manually reconnected across them.

Beam Nodes do not generate sparks when destroyed while carrying power, unlike Batteries which produce sparks on destruction. When placed on maps with fog-of-war enabled, a Beam Node reveals a very small area (a radius of one tile) around itself.

Practical notes:

  • Beam Nodes are highly fragile and intended for compact, short-range routing rather than long-term storage or heavy-load lines.
  • Use Beam Nodes to bridge small gaps or to create angled runs between Beam Towers and other beam-capable blocks; their ability to connect non-orthogonally increases layout flexibility.
  • Be aware that placing Plastanium Walls or Battery Diodes in a line will permanently sever beam links; plan network topology to avoid unintentionally cutting critical connections.
  • Beam Nodes were added in Build 136; their build time was later increased in Build 147 from 0.16s to 0.4s.
  • The Beam Node’s beam connection behavior is consistent with Mindustry Classic’s node beams, using visible beam links rather than wire sprites.
