Overview
Beta is a Serpulo core unit named after the second letter of the Greek alphabet. It is one of the early core units and fights with a simple homing weapon rather than a large arsenal, making it a straightforward combat and utility unit.
Beta’s weapon fires 2 bursts of 3 shots per second, dealing 11 damage with 0 inaccuracy. Its bullets have homing behavior and, unlike most unit projectiles, they despawn after traveling 22 tiles instead of using a fixed lifetime. Its building damage is heavily reduced, dropping from 11 to 0.11, so it is poor for attacking structures compared with engaging enemy units.
In play, Beta is best used as a light support fighter and a safe early escort unit. The homing shots help it connect reliably against moving targets, but the short travel distance means it performs best at close to medium range. Since the weapon no longer rotates independently while aiming and the unit turns toward its target when firing, it handles more smoothly than before.
- Beta’s range was reduced from 23 blocks to 22.
- Its speed was converted to 24.75 tiles/second.
- It can mine sand when directly controlled by a player with the “double-tap/click to mine” option enabled.
- The old command limit of 4 was removed.
- Its projectile behavior has changed multiple times: at one point bullet velocity no longer followed unit velocity, then was restored, and the bullet gained the fixed 22-tile despawn distance and homing property.
- Shooting backward no longer extends the bullet’s lifetime.
