Timberborn mod-making competition is here!

2026-04-23

Hello, everyone! The full version of Timberborn is available, and among the highlights of the [1.0 mega-update]("https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1062090/view/526491913334818795") were changes

Hello, everyone!

The full version of Timberborn is available, and among the highlights of the 1.0 mega-update were changes to the modding pipeline. Creating mods has never been easier - in many cases, you need zero coding experience.

Now it's time to up the stakes with the first-ever Timberborn modding competition!

🦫 What do I do?

This is our first mod competition, so let's keep it simple. There are three categories in which you can compete:

  • New game content - mods that add new buildings, map objects, beaver factions, you name it.
  • Quality-of-Life - mods that improve the players' experience, add new ways of accessing and using in-game data, simplify common tasks, etc.
  • Tails and banners - this one is for you, artsy beavers!

We do not have a set theme for this competition, so just give us your very best.

Remember that to be eligible, your creations must be new - not available anywhere before today.

💸 What can I win?

In each category, we will select a winner and a runner-up.

  • Each winner gets 750 EUR, is added to the in-game credits, and receives a special rank on our Discord.
  • Each runner-up gets 250 EUR.

On top of that, all winners and runner-ups will each receive a pair of the very limited, hand-made wooden beaver figurines created for our studio to celebrate the launch of Timberborn 1.0.

Not available anywhere else, this is not your ordinary gadget!

📬 How do I submit my creation?

  • Upload it and make it public on Steam Workshop by May 21, 23:59 CEST.
  • Include **** in the mod's name.
  • Submit THIS FORM, once for each mod you’re entering into the competition. The deadline is the same: May 21, 23:59 CEST.

🛠️ How do I create a mod? How do I upload it?

All aspiring modders should take a look at our recently updated modding documentation. Preparing mods varies in complexity, but we’ve made it as straightforward as possible. Especially the creation of tail and banner patterns, which is one of the categories in today’s competition, is very simple. Just look:

  • Open Mods from the main menu in the game and choose Create new mod on the right.
  • Click Tails and banners.
  • Add a name and click Create mod.

Done! A sample mod is now in your Mods folder, and all you need to do is replace the texture file found inside. Afterward, upload it through the in-game manager as explained ("https://github.com/mechanistry/timberborn-modding/wiki/Mod-management#uploading-mods-to-steam-workshop").

🚨 Important note

Before participating, read the Terms & Conditions and make sure you understand them.

🤔 Frequently Asked Questions

Again, what do I need to do?

  • Read the competition's Terms & Conditions and make sure you understand and accept them.

  • Create a new (= not published anywhere before April 23, 2026) mod that fits one of the three categories: New game content, Quality-of-Life, Tails & Banners.

  • Upload it to the Steam Workshop, adding the \ tag in the name of the mod.

  • Add at least one screenshot showing your mod in action.

  • Add a description that will tell everyone what is cool about your mod.

  • Make sure the mod is publicly available before the deadline.

  • Submit THIS FORM - once for each mod you’re entering into the competition. Do this before the deadline.

What's the deadline?

11.59 PM CEST on May 21, 2026.

How do I upload my mod onto Steam Workshop?

Follow this guide.

❓ Is this competition available to non-Steam users?

No.

What can I win?

  • In each of the three categories, the winner receives 750 EUR, and the runner-up receives 250 EUR.

  • The winners also get ultimate bragging rights - they will receive a special rank on Discord and be added to the in-game credits.

  • Both winners and runner-ups will receive a pair of wooden, hand-made beaver figurines.

How will you pick the winners?

Winners will be picked at Mechanistry's sole discretion, based on the submitted mods' originality, technical quality, usability (where applicable), and appearance (where applicable). Simply put, we’ll see what our team likes the most - that’s totally subjective, yes.

Put your best paw forward.

Can I submit a mod that depends on other mods to work or reuses previously available assets?

Yes, although we will focus on how unique your work is and how much it adds on its own.

Can I include more than one object in a mod? For example, could I submit a mod that features multiple buildings or tail patterns?

Sure - as long as it's downloaded as a single mod from Steam Workshop.

Where can I discuss the competition entries with other players?

Join our Discord and check out the dedicated contest channels.

Can I update my mod after the initial submission?

Yes. Steam Workshop allows you to update the mod, and we will not be checking the submissions before the competition’s deadline, so you can update your mod before then. Of course, you are welcome to update it after the deadline too, but to give everyone equal chances, we will be checking the most recent version available before the deadline.

❓ Can I exclude my mod from the competition?

We will only check the mods with "****" in their name, submitted through the submission form. Do not add the tag or submit the form if you don’t want to participate.

❓ **If I win, will my mod be added to the base game? Will you reupload it to the Workshop from your official account? **No and no.

❓ When will you announce the winners?

On or before June 19, 2026. Please note that we will contact you to collect your personal details. These are needed so that we can legally send you the prize money.

❓ Can I submit more than one mod?

Yes. You can submit as many mods as you wish, including in as many categories as you wish. However, one person can win only once. Also, quality > quantity.

Is there any legal fine print I should be aware of?

Yes. Read the competition’s Terms & Conditions.
