Overview

The Overdrive Projector is a small support building that provides localized Overdrive boosts to nearby blocks. It multiplies the inputs and outputs of affected blocks within its radius, effectively increasing production speed, power generation, turret fire and rotation rates, conveyor throughput, and logic instruction throughput. Overdrive boosts stack with other modifiers such as coolant and terrain effects, but each block only accepts the single strongest Overdrive source (Projector, Dome, or Navanax EMP); weaker Overdrive sources are ignored.

Overdrive Projectors are intended for targeted acceleration of a limited area rather than whole-base coverage. They are especially useful for rapidly addressing temporary bottlenecks or concentrating efficiency in compact sectors of an economy. With sufficient coverage, Projectors can substitute for building more copies of a block, yielding higher density and faster outcomes for research, defense, and unit production. Overdrive increases both production outputs and all required inputs proportionally: producers consume more items, liquids, and coolant as their rates increase.

Practical uses and interactions:

  • Use Projectors to quickly cover production shortfalls such as power spikes or silicon shortages without sprawling expansion.
  • Boost unit production chains (Cryofluid Mixers, assembly lines) to produce higher-tier units faster while reducing the number of building copies needed.
  • Overdrive Phase Fabric production by placing Projectors adjacent to Phase Weavers so the Weaver can supply boosted blocks; note Phase Weavers and other weavers draw significantly more power when overdriven.
  • Overdrive generators to increase power output in dense layouts instead of constructing additional generators, but monitor consumption increases (fuel, coolant) carefully.
  • Overdrive increases turret rate of fire and rotation; turrets also consume proportionally more ammo and coolant when overdriven, so factor in the added resource drain on defenses.

Mechanical notes and balance history:

  • Blocks accept only the strongest Overdrive boost available and ignore additional weaker sources.
  • As of Version 7.0 the Overdrive Projector’s health was increased and turrets under Overdrive were made to increase their coolant usage; prior to that change overdriven turrets did not increase coolant consumption (some turret models exhibited anomalous behavior when overdriven).
  • Overdrive Projector build time and health have seen small adjustments across updates.

When deploying Overdrive Projectors, concentrate on compact high-value targets (advanced factories, power hubs, turret clusters) and plan for proportional increases in input consumption (items, liquids, coolant, and power). Their strength lies in spatial efficiency: they accelerate operations as if additional copies of blocks were present, enabling denser and faster production or stronger but more resource-hungry defenses.
