Floodgate

Overview
The
Floodgate is a building used to control water flow in rivers, channels and reservoirs. Placed within water tiles or as part of dam structures, a
Floodgate lets players set the maximum water level that will be allowed to remain on the upstream side; any water above that set level will spill through the
Floodgate into downstream tiles.
Floodgates are categorized with dams and are commonly used to regulate irrigation, prevent unwanted flooding of built areas, and manage hydraulic systems.
Floodgates let you specify a target height between 0 and 1 (inclusive) in increments of 0.05.
Water whose surface is above the configured height will pass through the
Floodgate; water at or below that height will not flow through. Multiple adjacent
Floodgates can be synchronized so they share the same set height; this synchronization option is enabled by default, making it easy to manage uniform flow across a multi-tile dam or lock.
Practical notes:
- Set the
Floodgate height carefully to balance upstream storage and downstream flow; small adjustments (0.05 steps) allow fine control over water levels. - Use synchronized
Floodgates when building longer dams or multi-tile spillways to avoid uneven water distribution.
Floodgates function as part of dam systems and interact directly with neighboring water tiles, so consider tile elevation and nearby structures when placing them.- Because floodgates only allow water above the set level to pass, they are useful for keeping reservoirs at a desired minimum while releasing excess water automatically.
