Overview

Aquifer Drills are a water-building unit designed to extract fluids from aquifers. They are placed directly on Aquifer tiles and tap into the underground fluid source, producing a steady flow of water from their base during Temperate seasons. Aquifer Drills belong to the Water buildings category and function as a reliable mid- to late-game water supply option when sited on appropriate terrain.

Aquifer Drills require power to operate and provide a consistent power draw. A standard Aquifer Drill consumes 400 power while active, which is equal to the output of a Geothermal Engine. There is an ancient variant, Ancient Aquifer Drills, that have a lower power requirement of 200. The drill’s output appears as fluids flowing from its base into adjacent channels, reservoirs, or pipes; proper placement and connected infrastructure are necessary to transport the extracted water to storage or usage points.

  • Place Aquifer Drills directly on Aquifer tiles to access the fluid source; they do not function off-aquifer.
  • Ensure the settlement has sufficient continuous power generation to meet the drill’s consumption (400 power for the standard drill, 200 for ancient variants) to avoid shutdowns.
  • Route the fluids from the drill’s base into channels, reservoirs, or piping so the water is captured and usable by the colony; uncollected flows will be lost.
  • Position drills to take advantage of Temperate seasons when their fluid output is active; plan storage to bridge seasonal variations as needed.
  • Aquifer Drills are introduced early in the game’s version history as a built-in water-extraction building for aquifer tiles.
