Overview

The Food Factory is an advanced production building that converts multiple raw food inputs into large quantities of rations. It occupies a significant footprint in a settlement and serves as a late-game food-processing hub where agricultural and hunting yields are turned into stockpile-ready rations for the population.

The Food Factory produces rations at a very high rate: a single Food Factory provides enough rations to supply hundreds of beavers, making it the most efficient single building for mass food production. Because of its output scale, the Food Factory is intended to complement — not replace — food supply chains such as farms, fisheries, and hunting lodges; those primary producers must be scaled to feed the factory’s input demands.

Practical notes for deployment and operation:

  • Place Food Factories close to the main food resource collectors and storages to reduce transport time and prevent work slowdowns due to long hauling distances.
  • Ensure adequate worker housing and worker access: high production requires consistent staffing and a reliable path network.
  • Integrate Food Factories with warehouses and distribution roads so rations can be moved quickly to residential areas and emergency reserves.
  • Scale input production (farms, fisheries, hunting) before building multiple factories; each factory consumes a substantial amount of raw food to achieve its high ration output.
  • Use Food Factories strategically to build large stockpiles for winter survival, expansion waves, or population booms where rations are the limiting factor.
