Overview

A compact launcher that propels grinder discs at high velocity. The Grinder functions as a fast-firing ranged weapon that accelerates spinning metal discs (Grinder Discs) and sends them toward targets. Its high rate of fire and the behavior of the discs make it distinct from conventional projectile weapons and influence both offensive tactics and risk management in confined spaces.

Grinder Discs travel quickly and will ricochet when they strike surfaces, bouncing multiple times until they either hit something meaningful or break. These ricochets can continue to cause damage after the initial shot and can also injure the player who fired the weapon if they are caught in the disc’s rebound path. Discs can sometimes be retrieved after firing: they are occasionally recoverable from enemy corpses or from surfaces, in a manner similar to how bolts from the Makeshift Crossbow can be reclaimed.

Practical use and interactions:

  • Accuracy training: The Grinder’s very high fire rate makes it an effective method for improving the Accuracy skill through repeated hits.
  • Close-quarters caution: Avoid firing indiscriminately in tight corridors or rooms because bouncing discs are likely to ricochet back and strike the user or allies.
  • Recovery and resource economy: Check corpses and nearby surfaces after engagements; a portion of fired Grinder Discs can be recovered and reused, reducing long-term resource costs.
  • Targeting and environmental play: Use ricochets deliberately to hit enemies around cover or to clear clustered foes, but plan angles carefully to prevent self-damage.
  • Reload visuals: The Grinder has distinct reloading animations that change with reload level (examples shown for Levels 0–9 and Level 20), which can help you time follow-up shots or understand weapon readiness in combat footage or replays.
  • Damage profile: Bouncing discs remain dangerous until they break; treat each ricochet as a potential damaging projectile and maintain situational awareness after firing.

The Grinder occupies a niche as a high-rate, high-risk weapon that rewards precise positioning and angle management. Its ability to train Accuracy and to allow occasional recovery of spent discs encourages repeated use, but players must always account for ricochet mechanics to avoid friendly or self-inflicted damage.
