Functionally it operates like a refrigerator: when connected to power it maintains a cool internal temperature, slowing spoilage or preserving items that require refrigeration.

Because the unit’s walls and shielding are optimized to intercept all internal radiation, its usable inventory space is slightly reduced compared with a standard refrigerator. The reduction in capacity is a trade-off for full internal radiation containment; players must balance the need for shielding against the fewer slots available. The fridge does not remove radiation from an item — it prevents radiation from leaving the fridge, protecting the surrounding environment and characters from exposure.

Practical usage and interaction notes:

• Radiation containment: The Hazard Fridge blocks all emissions originating from stored items. Place irradiated foods or emission-producing objects inside to prevent them from irradiating nearby characters or equipment.
• Storage capacity: Expect marginally less storage space than a normal refrigerator. Plan storage layout accordingly, prioritizing the most hazardous items for the Hazard Fridge.
• Power requirement: The cooling function requires the fridge to be plugged into a power source. When powered, it keeps contents cool and extends shelf life as a standard refrigerated unit would.
• Item behavior: Items kept inside remain themselves radioactive where applicable; the fridge only stops external emission. Do not rely on the fridge to decontaminate or remove radiation from items.
• Placement strategy: Use the Hazard Fridge near work areas or storage rooms where irradiated goods are frequently handled to reduce accidental exposure. Keep non-irradiated perishables elsewhere if you need maximum capacity.
• Safety and maintenance: Because the unit is explicitly for radioactive items, treat it as a secure container. If gameplay permits, inspect for power outages or damage that could allow radiation to leak if shielding is compromised.

The Hazard Fridge is an essential tool when dealing with radioactive consumables. Its complete internal shielding and refrigeration combine containment and preservation, at the cost of slightly reduced inventory space, so it should be used selectively to maximize both safety and storage efficiency.
