Battery (Carbon)

Battery (Carbon) is a large, stationary energy storage item that accepts and stores incoming electrical power and supplies that stored power whenever no other electricity source is available. It functions as a reservoir for excess generation and as an automatic fallback when generation drops below demand, ensuring a continuous supply of electricity to connected systems during outages or gaps in production.

The device continuously accumulates any incoming electricity directed into it until its internal storage is full. When the rest of the power network cannot meet consumption, the battery discharges to cover the shortfall. Because it both receives and outputs the same commodity — electrical energy — it is placed inline with generation and consumption nodes to capture surplus generation and sustain loads during deficits.

Practical usage and interactions:

• Install the battery where it can receive excess generation without obstructing primary distribution lines; placing it close to intermittent generators maximizes the amount of surplus energy it can capture.
• The battery activates automatically to supply power only when other available sources are insufficient, so it serves primarily as backup and as a buffer to smooth transient variations in generation.
• Use one or more batteries to bridge short outages or demand spikes; multiple units increase stored energy and extend the time they can supply power without external generation.
• Batteries do not create power; they only store and later release electricity that was previously supplied to them. Continuous reliance on batteries without replenishment will eventually deplete stored energy.
• Because capacity and charge/discharge behavior are intrinsic to the item, plan charging opportunities (times of surplus generation) to ensure the battery is available when needed rather than remaining depleted.
• Batteries are most effective in networks with intermittent or variable generation sources, where they absorb excess output during peaks and relieve the network during troughs.
