Overview

The Desk Lamp is a simple, toggleable light item found in the game. It functions as a basic on/off lamp for illumination but also has several specific interactions with hostile entities and certain devices. The Desk Lamp emits light in four circular beams rather than a single cone, and it can be painted with different paints to change the color of the light it produces. The Desk Lamp is unlocked by examining the "X-Ray Shield Emitter" control panel located in the entrance to the Control Center of Cascade Laboratories; that area becomes accessible after escaping the Furniture Store.

The Desk Lamp forces a Leyak to disappear and causes the Leyak to drop Leyak Essence when used. When combined with an X-Ray Tower it will stop a Leyak in its tracks even if the Leyak has already begun attacking the player. The Desk Lamp also affects the Reaper: using it can make a Reaper drop Night Essence, although there is a cooldown limiting how often the Reaper can be made to yield additional essences. Use of the Desk Lamp against a Reaper will change its behavior so that it attacks the player rather than attempting to grab them. The Desk Lamp can also be used to scare off a Darkwater Beast if it is uncomfortably close.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • Illumination: Acts similarly to a Flashlight as a light source but projects four circular beams instead of a single beam.
  • Leyak: Causes disappearance and guarantees a Leyak Essence drop; pairs effectively with X-Ray Tower to halt Leyak aggression mid-attack.
  • Reaper: Triggers a Night Essence drop with a cooldown; alters Reaper behavior to attack rather than grab, so use it cautiously.
  • Darkwater Beast: Can frighten the beast away when it is nearby.
  • Customization: The Desk Lamp can be painted using available paints; paint changes the emitted light color.
  • Acquisition: The Desk Lamp recipe or unlocking condition is tied to the X-Ray Shield Emitter control panel at the Control Center entrance in Cascade Laboratories, which is reachable after escaping the Furniture Store.
