Overview

The Laser Pistol is a laser-powered sidearm that appears as a secondary weapon. It functions as both a combat tool and a utility device for solving certain environmental puzzles where laser beams must be redirected. The pistol can be recharged using an appropriate charger, or manually by cranking it with the reload key; this manual crank animation and sound come from a mechanically powered flashlight effect.

The Laser Pistol is required at least once in the Laser Lab in the Adjustment Wing of Cascade Laboratories to redirect a beam and open the portal to Rise at the Lens Epicentre. Its construction is unlocked by examining a whiteboard labeled "Interesting Diagram" inside the Laser Lab; the lab door leading to that whiteboard requires Antethermite and a Keypad Hackerman (Tier 3) to access.

In combat terms the Laser Pistol differs from the Energy Pistol in how damage is applied. The Energy Pistol delivers its damage across five ticks of 10 damage each for a total of 50, while the Laser Pistol fires two ticks of 30 damage each for a total of 60 damage. This makes the Laser Pistol about 20% stronger in total damage per shot and it fires more quickly than the Energy Pistol, though the per-tick structure and timing can make the raw numbers somewhat misleading in practice. The Laser Pistol recharges via the crank at the same rate as the Energy Pistol, but it does not benefit from the passive recharging effect provided by the trinket that passively recharges the Energy Pistol; as a result, its effective overall recharge when using that trinket is lower.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • Use the Laser Pistol to aim and redirect laser beams; it is necessary to solve the Laser Lab redirect puzzle and open the portal at the Lens Epicentre.
  • Recharge options: connect to a charger to restore energy, or manually crank (reload key) to add charge without external power.
  • Damage profile: two high-damage ticks (30 + 30) over a short interval for a total of 60; faster firing makes it better for burst engagements compared to the Energy Pistol.
  • Recharging behavior: crank recharge rate equals the Energy Pistol, but it cannot use the passive trinket recharge that benefits the Energy Pistol.
  • Crafting unlock: examine the "Interesting Diagram" whiteboard in the Laser Lab (Adjustment Wing, Cascade Laboratories). Access to the Laser Lab requires Antethermite and Keypad Hackerman (Tier 3).
  • Audio detail: the cranking sound effect is taken from a mechanically powered flashlight.
