Thermal Mallet
Overview
Thermal Mallet is a handheld melee weapon that functions as a sturdy hammer and leaves scorching fire at the location it strikes. Its basic effect is to apply a burning/flame effect where the head of the tool contacts a surface or enemy, producing lingering heat-based damage at the impact point. The Mallet features both a normal swing and a distinct power attack animation, which are used depending on input timing and stamina or charge behavior.
The item can be toggled on or off to produce a forward-facing light when active. The emitted light can be recolored by using paint; painting changes only the hue of the emitted light and does not alter the visual color of the Mallet itself. The Thermal Mallet must be crafted to obtain; its recipe becomes available after the player first interacts with a
- Combat: Striking with the Mallet places scorching flames at the impact location, making it effective for creating area denial on ground or igniting flammable objects and enemies. Use normal swings for quicker hits and the power attack to maximize impact and flame placement when precise placement or stronger effect is needed.
- Light utility: Toggle the Mallet’s built-in light on to illuminate areas in front of the wielder. Paint the light to change its hue for visibility or aesthetic preference; this modifies only the emitted light color.
- Acquisition and crafting: The Mallet cannot be looted from fixed spawns; it is available only via Crafting. Interact with a
Desk Lamp once to unlock the crafting recipe, then gather renewable ingredients to produce additional copies.
- Durability and resource considerations: Because all recipe components are renewable or readily obtainable from Portal Worlds, maintaining or replacing the Thermal Mallet is feasible without high long-term resource cost.
- Visuals and animations: The weapon includes separate animations for normal swings and a power attack, which affect how and where flames are placed on impact.
Thermal Mallet is best used where area control or environmental ignition provides tactical advantage, and its built-in light makes it a dual-purpose tool for exploration in darker areas while remaining a reliable source of heat-based melee damage.
