Throwing Shard

Overview

The

Mechanically, the item behaves like a standard thrown weapon with a simple control scheme. The primary attack is a basic stab that consumes one projectile per use; this allows the shard to be used repeatedly in melee until the stack is expended. The secondary action readies the shard for throwing, turning the same item into a ranged attack in a single use. Beyond combat, the shard functions as a harvesting tool: it can be used to harvest remains and butcher certain creatures, which is how some sources of the item are obtained.
- Description: a strong, razor-like blade made from super-hardened ice; sharply edged and capable of lethal piercing.
- Inventory role: stackable thrown weapon and melee stabbing tool; counts as a projectile when used or thrown.
- Primary attack: stab; spends one projectile per attack.
- Secondary attack: prepares and performs a throw.
- Harvesting use: can be used to cut up corpses and harvest remains; required to retrieve the shard from certain corpses.
- Known locations and sources: Cascade Laboratories (level 3, Adjustment Wing — on the body near Cold Storage, requires cutting the body), dropped by Symphonists, found in Cacophonous Crates, and obtained by butchering
Chordfish.
- Visuals: in-game imagery shows separate animations for normal stabbing and for throwing the shard.
Players should treat Throwing Shards as flexible emergency ammunition that also serves utility needs for harvesting; keeping a few on hand provides both a cheap ranged option and the ability to process bodies that would otherwise withhold the item.
