Laser Katana

The Laser Katana is a ranged melee weapon that swings in an arc and can hit multiple enemies at once, with reach similar to the Electro-Thrower. During a swing, a laser beam shows the direction of the strike, making its attack arc easier to read in combat. It is notably different from the Sword in that it can strike enemies at range rather than only on direct contact.

When charged, the Laser Katana deals Laser damage for its direct attack damage. If its charge is depleted, the weapon instead deals Sharp damage. Even when discharged, it still retains the bonus laser damage component; the difference is that it no longer emits the visible laser arc. This makes the weapon functionally consistent even after power runs out, though its visual attack cue disappears.

A few important mechanics make it behave differently from other melee weapons:

• Despite not being classified as a Heavy Weapon, it does not allow shields to be used while equipped.
• It receives a hidden damage bonus from Blunt Melee skill while charged, and from Sharp Melee when uncharged.
• Only Sharp Melee experience is gained from using it, even when the weapon is charged.
• Its sweeping attack makes it especially effective against clustered enemies, since one swing can strike several targets in the arc.

Because of its ranged arc and multi-target coverage, the Laser Katana is best used when you want to control space and hit enemies before they fully close in. Its attack timing and direction are especially useful in narrow corridors or against groups, where the visible beam helps line up strikes on multiple targets at once.
