DESIGNATION: Crucis (AG/AV)

CONTAINMENT PROTOCOL: IS-0091 is to be subject at all times to an electromagnetic field with photon energies ranging from 100 eV to 100 keV - roughly coterminous with the x-ray spectrum. The subject must be identified hourly, and that observation recorded in the subject's daybook. Anyone viewing or perceiving IS-0091 under any other conditions should stare directly at the creature until it vanishes, then report the encounter IMMEDIATELY to Security staff.

A transcorporeal creature of uncertain origins, the 'Leyak' was discovered in Indonesia by a GATE TransRecon team led by Dr. Lenora Riggs.

The entity focuses its attention on a single person until observed for a given length of time, whereupon it vanishes, reappearing elsewhere and commencing its search again. IS-0091's only weakness appears to be high-energy EM, such as x-rays.

Overview

Leyak is a transcorporeal creature of uncertain origin classified as IS-0091 (Crucis AG/IV). It was first encountered in Indonesia by a GATE TransRecon team led by Dr. Lenora Riggs. Physically it appears as a fleshy, reddish skull with three eyes, matted black hair, a partial spinal column and ribs, multiple pale tentacles from the head and a large pair of lungs. The entity hovers through environments and habitually faces its current target even when not in the target's line of sight.

IS-0091 focuses on a single person at a time. It will remain tethered to that target until someone observes it for a set duration, at which point the Leyak demanifests and reappears elsewhere to resume searching. While only the chosen target usually perceives the creature, its behavior changes if the target sleeps: a pixelated, dream-version of the Leyak will appear in the target's dream and can wake the player if it catches them. If the target moves too close, the Leyak will attack with a wheezing assault that ignores armor; this attack triggers pursuit even if the player is then looking directly at the creature.

The Leyak moves only when it is not in direct unobstructed line of sight of its target or if the target is beyond a certain distance. It cannot pass through solid walls, but it can traverse closed or locked doors and most player-placed deployables; it will open unlocked doors. Unbreakable windows, doors, and fences generally do not allow it to move while being observed, but breakable windows can allow movement when they obstruct vision. While active, the Leyak emits short moans or sigh-like vocalizations.

The creature is not vulnerable to conventional weapons. Its principal weakness is high-energy electromagnetic radiation roughly in the X-ray band: a field or device operating between approximately 100 eV and 100 keV will force it to demanifest. X-Ray Towers and X-Ray Lamps (including OX variants) will repel the Leyak and may cause it to drop Leyak Essence. Staring directly at the Leyak without any visual obstruction will also make it vanish; it remains demanifested for roughly 10–30 seconds when held in direct sight.

Leyak spawns and respawn timing: it re-manifests on its own approximately every 7.5 in-game hours (about 15 real minutes). Consumption of Greyeb-derived foods (Greyeb, Greyeb Chowder, Cosmato Salad Wrap) increases its appearance rate down to once per in-game hour (about 2 real minutes). It is unknown from available material whether increased spawn rate alters target-switching behavior. Equipping a Sensory Companion or the Leyak Pest (pet) causes the Leyak to behave as if continuously observed, providing substantial protection to the player; some companions (e.g., Kylie) will also comment on the Leyak's presence.

Containment and interaction: the Leyak is kept in Containment Unit: 91, which requires continuous exposure to the specified EM field. In player-accessible containment mechanics, drawing the Leyak near and blasting it with an X-Ray Lamp or Tower will place it visibly inside Containment Unit: 91; the unit must be fueled with Greyeb to prevent escape. Fuel is shown by two segmented red bars and a full fueling lasts about one in-game week; two Greyeb fully fuel the unit. Leyak Essence occasionally drops from the containment chute.

Cultural notes: the design and name draw directly from Balinese folklore about the Leyak — a severed head with dangling entrails associated with Rangda, the demon queen. In-game flavor and death messages reference this connection and the traditional three-legend Leyak motif.
