Overview

Big Hive Larva is a larger variant of the Hive Larva encountered in GATE Cascade Research Facility zones that intersect collapsed or reclaimed mining areas. It is noticeably bigger than the standard Hive Larva and has a substantially larger health pool, making it a more durable adversary during engagements. The organisms in this group are cataloged A299 A–D and are presumed to derive from Anteverse 299; parts of their hive were carried into the Facility when the Cascade’s perforation network destabilized and intersected older, defunct horizontal mineshafts.

These creatures are considered a hive entity that relies heavily on scent and olfactory cues for intra-hive communication. Observational data indicate that individual organisms may also contribute structurally to the hive at certain life stages rather than acting solely as independent units. The intelligence level of Big Hive Larva is not established and remains the subject of ongoing research.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • Relative durability: Big Hive Larva has a larger health pool than the standard Hive Larva; engagements will typically take longer and require sustained damage to neutralize.
  • Habitat: Most commonly encountered where the Facility’s perforation failures exposed older mining tunnels that intersected with hive matter transported from Anteverse 299.
  • Behavior and ecology: Communication within the species appears to depend on scent-based signals; individuals likely function as parts of a broader hive system and may be found in proximity to hive structures.
  • Drops: Defeating a Big Hive Larva yields collectible and material items. Known drops include Raw Hive Larva Meat with a 50% chance and Big Hive Larva Figurine with a 6% chance.
  • Research status: The life cycle stages, exact role of Big Hive Larva in hive construction, and cognitive capacity are incompletely documented and require further field and lab study.
