Overview

Corrupted Bot is a hostile G.E.A.R. unit encountered in the field that appears as a heavily damaged and overgrown robot originally designed as an Expedition Assistant Bot for GATE TransRecon teams. Though its outward condition suggests disrepair, it is a durable and dangerous enemy: it uses Hardlight shielding technology that must be broken or otherwise nullified before the unit can be harmed, and that shield will redeploy after a short recharge period. Corrupted Bots bear the Gatekeepers’ insignia on shoulder and thigh armor and feature a blinding white spotlight in place of a headlamp; their front torso is often torn open and foreign vegetation grows across their chassis.

Corrupted Bots are typically found idle or standing as if deactivated. They remain passive until the player approaches from the front or attacks them, at which point they become hostile and pursue targets. Their gait is noticeably impaired by a limp, which reduces their normal movement speed, but this changes when their health falls low: damaged Corrupted Bots can suddenly accelerate and move at high speed for short bursts. The unit’s behavior and attack set are consistent and learnable:

  • Acid Flush: a wide acid attack where the robot sweeps its cannon side to side, spraying a large area in front of it with corrosive liquid.
  • Cannon Punch: a single-arm melee swing used at close range.
  • Cannon Lunge: a charging melee strike in which the robot rears back and quickly lunges forward to close distance.

Defensive and elemental properties are specific. Corrupted Bots possess a large health pool and Hardlight shields; players must remove or bypass that shield to deal damage while it is active. They are immune to electric-type weapons, possess resistance to blunt damage, and are vulnerable to holy-based attacks. When engaging, plan to either break the Hardlight barrier through sustained damage or use abilities/items that negate or bypass shielding effects; be prepared for recharged shielding and for a burst of mobility when the robot nears death.

Loot and harvestables from Corrupted Bots are consistent and valuable:

In lore, these machines began as reliable expedition assistants for TransRecon teams but increasingly accompanied Gatekeepers on field missions. Many G.E.A.R. units returned from those operations altered; Gatekeepers’ use and maintenance (whether intentional modification or neglect) are directly responsible for the Corrupted Bot’s present state and the unusual retrofits and biological encroachment observed on recovered units.

Combat tips and practical notes:

  • Prioritize breaking or nullifying the Hardlight shield before committing heavy damage; expect shield redeployment and time attacks to exploit the window after it falls.
  • Avoid electric weapons, as Corrupted Bots are immune to electricity. Favor holy damage and piercing or edged weapons over blunt tools.
  • Keep distance to counter Cannon Punch and Cannon Lunge; sidestep the forward lunge and punish during recovery frames.
  • When the bot reaches low health, anticipate a sudden speed increase and either kite to maintain safe spacing or prepare crowd-control to stop its burst movement.
  • Harvest wreckage after combat to collect reliable tech components and the chance for a GATE Defense Rune.
