Big Larva

Big Larva is a larger variant of the Hive Larva encountered within the GATE Cascade Research Facility and its intersecting mineworks. It is recorded in the GATE Compendium as one of a family of larval organisms (A299 A–D) presumed to originate from Anteverse 299; these organisms and portions of their hive were transported into the Facility's old mining region when the perforation network destabilized. Big Larva appears where hive material and horizontal mineshafts intersect, and is associated with the same olfactory-based communication and hive-building life phases attributed to the Hive Larva family.

The organisms in this group communicate primarily through scent and other olfactory cues and are believed to form parts of the hive structure during phases of their lifecycle. Big Larva’s exact cognitive capabilities remain undetermined and require further study; current records classify its intelligence as unknown.

Big Larva yields specific harvestable resources when defeated. Notable drops include Raw Larva Meat with a 50% chance and the cosmetic Big Larva Figurine with a 4% chance. These drop rates are listed in the Facility’s harvestable drops registry and are the primary documented rewards for engaging the creature.

In combat Big Larva is distinguished from standard Hive Larva mainly by its increased durability. It possesses a larger health pool than the base Hive Larva, making prolonged engagements more likely. Aside from higher health, existing field notes do not provide additional confirmed distinctions in behavior or abilities; researchers advise caution due to the hive-linked nature of these organisms and their scent-based communication.
