Overview

Big Larva is a larger variant of Hive Larva and is part of the larval hive organisms associated with The Hive. It appears in the older, defunct mining region of the GATE Cascade Research Facility, an area that was once solid rock and is now cut by horizontal mineshafts after the facility’s perforation network destabilized. The related organisms are presumed to originate from Anteverse 299, where similar entities were observed during the first and only TransRecon expedition to that location.

Big Larva is notable for having a larger health pool than the standard Hive Larva, making it a sturdier target in combat. Like the rest of its hive kin, it is believed to communicate largely through scent and olfactory cues, and the species is thought to function as part of a larger hive organism. Its exact intelligence remains unconfirmed.

When defeated, Big Larva can drop:

Because it is tougher than a normal Hive Larva, engaging one should be done with the expectation of a longer fight and more incoming damage. In mixed encounters with other hive organisms, it is often the more durable threat to prioritize first. Its connection to the hive also suggests that it should be treated as part of a broader ecosystem rather than a solitary creature, especially in the mining-region tunnels where these organisms are encountered.
