Overview

IS-0139 is an evasive crystalline humanoid entity designated "Crucis (AG/CA/IF)" in facility records. It appears as a humanoid body with multiple multi-jointed appendages sprouting from its back and extensive violet-to-lavender crystal growths encrusting its flesh. IS-0139 possesses the ability to refract visible light and become nearly transparent, using this optical camouflage to patrol or hold position unseen. Its biology is fragile and unstable; when stressed or destroyed the subject tends to shatter or disintegrate into dust and shards, which has complicated research efforts and necessitated strict containment measures.

Containment protocols implemented provisionally by GISE require full viral and pathogenic biohazard containment, electrical insulation rated to 2 MV, motion-triggered infrared monitoring, and Grade 2 blast dampening. These measures reflect both the subject’s hazardous physical properties and its tendency to explode into shards under stress.

In the field IS-0139 favors distance and mobility. Subjects patrol or remain stationary while cloaked and adopt hit-and-run tactics when engaged: they step back or reposition between ranged strikes rather than committing to prolonged close combat. When an IS-0139 performs a ranged attack it briefly becomes fully visible while emitting a bolt of energy from its mouth. If engaged at close quarters it may instead execute a rapid lunging melee strike using its arms, then flee after the attack. Movement and actions produce faint reflections and characteristic sounds that can betray its approximate location even while cloaked; these cues are especially noticeable when using direct light sources such as flashlights or headlamps.

Combat against IS-0139 emphasizes exploiting its fragility and its forced vulnerability while attacking. The creature cannot maintain camouflage while performing ranged attacks, and its brief full visibility during that animation is an optimal window to strike. The subject is fragile and will die to a few well-placed hits; however, its high movement speed and erratic repositioning can prolong engagements if allowed. Notably, IS-0139 exhibits resistance to ballistic weaponry, so firearms are less effective than other ranged options. Melee weapons can quickly kill an IS-0139 but require good timing to handle its unpredictable lunges. Freezing effects will lock the subject in place and forcibly reveal its position, creating an easy opportunity to eliminate it.

IS-0139 reliably drops Powdered Crystal on defeat. Additional observations recorded in facility notes: a single subject may appear perched on the roof of the last passenger car at the end of The Train for unexplained reasons; one can spawn during an Assault Event with no warning other than its arrival sound effect; and similarities with IS-0211 suggest the symbiote afflicting IS-0139 may originate from Anteverse 17. The entity is commonly referred to only by its IS designation in official documents because no nickname had been assigned before The Order's attack. Despite fan-circulated names, the compendium does not record any alternate proper name for IS-0139.
