Manufacturing West
Overview
Manufacturing West is the primary industrial zone of the GATE Cascade Research Facility, focused on engineering, fabrication, and the production of technical equipment used throughout the complex. The sector occupies the repurposed infrastructure of a decommissioned lithium mine, and many of its industrial features and raw, excavated spaces reflect that origin. Manufacturing West sits adjacent to the Office Sector and is reachable by road or the facility Tram; it forms the western half of the facility's manufacturing complex while references to Manufacturing East indicate a paired area that is not accessible in play.
The sector serves both as a research-support hub — designing and building experimental apparatus and specialist tools — and as a hazardous field area in the story. Early in the narrative the Order conducts a forceful incursion into Manufacturing West to remove GATE personnel and neutralize entities encountered there. Some staff successfully hid or fortified local positions (notably around The Blacksmith in FORGE), and a limited number of survivors remain discoverable in concealed areas.
Key locations and landmarks within Manufacturing West include:
- Garage — vehicle and maintenance bay for facility transport and repair.
- F.O.R.G.E — an industrial processing area where The Blacksmith is based; this zone contains heavy machinery and fortified workspaces.
- The Synchrotron — a large experimental device; a multi-step task is required to bring it online, and operating the Synchrotron triggers an internal implosion that opens a breach leading into a tunnel toward Cascade Laboratories.
- The Old Mines / Digsite — remnants of the site's mining past and an area that connects via portals to tutorial sections.
- Staff Processing — a small subsection connected to the Digsite; the segment containing the
Plague training/dummy room is accessible through a two-way Portal in the building that precedes the Mines.
- Mapping Station — a control/monitoring post used for facility schematics and layout tasks.
Prominent NPCs encountered in Manufacturing West include Varsha Patel, Julia Montgomery, Douglas, Hank Kettle, Kovak, Sarah Frake, Hasta Tria, a Crane Operator, and The Blacksmith. These characters provide dialogue, tasks, or factions of interest and can be found in workshops, offices, and the FORGE area.

Use the Garage and Tram access to control approach routes, and check fortified nooks such as The Blacksmith for hidden survivors or supplies. The portal linking Staff Processing to the Mines can be used for shortcuts or tactical retreats but may also expose you to training or enemy spawn points tied to the
