Overview

North Pole is the in-game designation for Anteverse 188, a self-nucleated spatial "exception" studied by GATE researchers. It appears as an idealized, refuge-like pocket seemingly outside the normal universe, enclosed by a glass boundary optically measured at roughly 10–15 meters thick. The region is governed by anomalous laws that GATE staff have not fully explained; it cannot be left by normal means, and its origins are debated. A secondary anomalous subject, IS-0127 (commonly called the Snowman), is present within the location and is central to both the site's scientific mystery and its immediate dangers. Reports also note intermittent perforation signatures linking Anteverse 188 to multiple Earth sites, which cluster seasonally and suggest recurrent transit between this location and certain terrestrial points.

Players access North Pole via the portable snow globe item IS-0105. The globe is found in Containment Block Dirac, holding cell IS-0127, inside Cascade Laboratories (reachable after leaving the Furniture Store). Picking up and touching IS-0105 transports the player into North Pole; using the portal exit in-world returns the player to IS-0127's holding cell. If IS-0127 has been defeated in the holding cell, returning through the portal unlocks Winter Cabin as a Home World.

On arrival the player spawns on a wooden train platform that periodically has a train make a loop around the town. The train is operated by former TransRecon member Dr. Simon Harkness, who speaks lines of festive dialogue. A burning tree near the town square marks the usual location of IS-0127, which appears as a hostile Snowman. Interacting with its hat will trigger combat; defeat of IS-0127 yields loot including presents and occasional resources. A large building with an open wall houses the Sleigh vehicle; it is driveable and seats two players. The Wishing Shelf, located in a prominent building to the right of the main tree, is a unique furniture item that can duplicate up to three resource items after a Portal World reset. The portal exit is found at the top of the tallest building, accessible by climbing several flights of stairs.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • IS-0105 is portable and can be carried into other spaces; touching it while held transports the holder into North Pole. Shaking IS-0105 before entering, or while other players are inside, will trigger a brief blizzard effect in-world.
  • Presents scattered around the town contain various items; one recurring item type associated with the locale is "Carrot".
  • The Sleigh provides a simple two-person transport method for traversing the town quickly.
  • The Wishing Shelf provides a reliable way to duplicate small quantities of resources following a portal reset; plan duplicates around reset timing.
  • Time inside North Pole is distorted: wristwatches display unusual or nonstandard date/time while within the location.
  • Players cannot place another IS-0105 inside North Pole while one is already present.
  • The environment carries a documented psychical hazard: Dr. Simon Harkness, the first GATE scientist to visit, developed a compulsive need to don festive clothing and return, and must be monitored bi-weekly by project staff. Researchers propose differing theories about the A188/IS-0127 complex—ranging from accidental co-instantiation of IS-0127 during creation of the snow globe to the possibility that Anteverse 188 functions as a trap engineered to contain or destroy another unidentified organism.
  • There have been a handful of reported sightings of a secondary humanoid entity tentatively designated IS-0105-B; no contact has been established and further investigation remains under review by GATE's Research Ethics Committee.
