Security Sector

The Security Sector is a location within GATE and one of the main sectors of the Cascade Research Facility. It sits between the Office and Cascade Laboratories and serves as the route to the Hydroplant. Officially designated the Cascade Defense Sector, it was built as a self-sufficient, defensible home for GATE’s Defense Team, who were responsible for protecting staff, subjects, and the facility’s information and infrastructure.

The sector is arranged around the Large Surface Elevator, which functions as one of GATE’s main links to the outside world and the fastest way in or out of the facility. The area includes multiple layers of security doors, small offices, storage areas, a vehicle storage bay, and training facilities for security personnel, along with a driving test area. By the time the player reaches it, the sector is locked down and dimly lit, with signs of violence, destroyed Defense Robots, and a generally abandoned emergency-state atmosphere.

Several named locations are found here, including Security Sector Reception, Tower, Repair Bay, Firearms Range, Surface Elevator, and Storage Bay. The Storage Bay is a large two-floor area containing multiple items and crates. The only working outlets in the sector are in the Vehicular Testing area, making power access especially limited compared with the rest of the facility.

The Security Sector is also strongly tied to The Night Realm and the Reaper. Light sources flicker when the Reaper is nearby, and if it catches the player, they are sent to The Night Realm. The Reaper is sensitive to X-ray beams: using one against it briefly staggers it and causes it to drop Night Essence, but it then becomes enraged and begins chasing the player with its scythes instead of trying to grab them. Orange portals shaped like cathedral gates are another way to access The Night Realm.

• The sector is heavily locked down, so progression through it is more constrained than in many other parts of the facility.
• The Large Surface Elevator is the sector’s central landmark and the main structural connection to the outside world.
• The only functioning outlets are in the Vehicular Testing area.
• The area contains both security and support spaces, including offices, a repair bay, a firearms range, and vehicle facilities.
• The overhead announcer occasionally speaks in a monotone voice and mixes in an unknown dialect similar to the Reaper’s own.
