Overview

Fragments is a distinct district encountered during the mid-to-late game that contains several interconnected subareas and story beats centered on time-divergent exploration and robotic facilities. The sector includes the Botanical Wing — a two-stage area split between the "present" and the "future" via Divarication — plus adjacent shops and workshops reachable after progressing through the Botanical Wing and its teleporter into the GATE Arch Defense Facility. Fragments functions as a hub for acquiring key crafting recipes and movement upgrades that are required to access later parts of the game.

The Botanical Wing forms a major portion of Fragments. It is divided into a present and a future state; the player uses green and red portals to switch between the two moments in time, opening paths and revealing otherwise inaccessible areas. At the end of the Botanical Wing the player meets the Sister of the Unlost and obtains a teleporter that leads into the GATE Arch Defense Facility. Inside that facility the player acquires the recipes for the Excursion Suit and the Motion Module. The Motion Module is explicitly required to progress further through Fragments, making the Botanical Wing sequence mandatory for forward progression.

Fragments also contains a robot workshop reachable only in the future (the Divarication "future" segment). This workshop sits near a ruined helix DNA statue whose collapsed spiral provides a route up to a walkway and scaffolding; timing and platforming are required to access the workshop. In the robot workshop the player can upload Kylie Muir into a defense robot, unlocking interactions and potential combat support tied to that NPC. Other named NPCs associated with Fragments include Elanor Newman (found trapped inside a glass display within the Botanical Wing) and Lenora Riggs; Jimmy Sanders initially appears in the Botanical Wing sequence but, after the player transfers the Sun Disk's power onto him and completes the main story, he relocates to a taco shop in Fragments just outside the Botanical Wing.

Practical notes and strategies:

  • Use Divarication portals (green for one time, red for the other) to alternate between the present and future versions of the Botanical Wing; many progression routes depend on switching epochs to reposition platforms and open doors.
  • Prioritize reaching the GATE Arch Defense Facility to obtain the Excursion Suit and Motion Module recipes; the Motion Module is required to continue through Fragments.
  • The robot workshop is only accessible in the future. Look for the ruined helix DNA statue and use the spiral rubble to reach adjacent walkways and scaffolding to enter the workshop.
  • Upload Kylie Muir into the defense robot in the workshop to enable related story beats and potential mechanical assistance.
  • After transferring the Sun Disk's power to Jimmy Sanders during the Botanical Wing sequence, expect his location to change: post-main-story he can be found at the taco shop just outside the Botanical Wing within Fragments.
  • The Botanical Wing’s dual-era design rewards careful observation of how changes between present and future affect level geometry; sequences inspired by time-shift mechanics require thinking in two layered states simultaneously.

Fragments ties narrative, time-manipulation puzzles, and robotic customization together; completing its core tasks is necessary for both story advancement and obtaining movement upgrades that unlock further regions. The Botanical Wing’s present/future interplay is a central design element for the area and shapes most navigation and progression challenges.
