Overview

Security Bot is a tall, boxy humanoid security automaton deployed by the GATE Automated Security Sentience (G.A.S.S.) program to protect GATE facilities from internal threats and to service vending machines. The program began in 1985 following the Torii Facility decompression event; its long-term objective is the creation of fully sentient AI, but Security Bots are currently used for patrols in low-security sectors. They appear throughout multi-level GATE facilities and are a reliable source of components and consumables when defeated.

A Security Bot's chassis is mostly grey with blue accents, backward-bending legs, and a blocky storage unit on its back holding sodas. Its upper torso mounts a large camera eye that emits a yellow searchlight; this searchlight turns red when the unit is hostile. The torso also features a red megaphone/outlet. The left arm ends in a three-prong claw while the right arm houses a taser. Damaging a Security Bot leaves oil splatters on nearby surfaces and melee attackers.

Security Bots have two behavioral modes tied to the day/night cycle. During daytime they remain inert inside Robot Charging Pods; if attacked while docked they emit warnings until forced to emerge, after which they patrol a small area around the damaged pod. At night they patrol their sector and are hostile to all entities, including Order soldiers, the player, and player-deployed objects near their route. In morning they will try to return to a Charging Pod if no new targets are found.

Combat-wise, Security Bots use only melee attacks and are relatively slow walkers, making them manageable for nimble or ranged players. Their primary attacks are:

  • Thunder Fist: a taser-arm swing that briefly stuns.
  • Shock Tackle: a quick close-range dash that can stun; can be dodged by sidestepping.
  • Spin Attack: a high-knockback rapid spin triggered when cornered or surrounded by multiple targets.

Security Bots have an unusual damage model: reducing the torso to 0 HP does not immediately kill the unit; further hits then apply to the head health pool (the camera eye counts as the head). This effectively raises the torso-target health to 360 unless the eye (head) is hit directly.

Drops and harvestable materials are consistent and lucrative. Defeating a Security Bot yields a Security Bot CPU and a set of canned sodas (Vit, Fizz Bang, Rootbear, Pop Snarkle, Slam) at 100% chance each. Harvesting a broken unit returns substantial materials: Metal Scrap (very high yield, up to mid-30s with optimal processing), Glass Scrap, Tech Scrap, Coil, and Robot Oil.

Typical locations include Level 1 lobby, Data Farm on Level 2, near the Manufacturing West door, the end of the Level 3 hall, and the garage by the Blacksmith in Manufacturing West. A broken Security Bot is permanently placed in the Manufacturing West garage near the kitchen and does not respawn.

Practical strategies and interactions:

  • Use ranged weapons or the Makeshift Spear to attack from outside melee range; traps and deployable defenses can lure and wear them down.
  • Deployables such as Chopinators, Batteries, and Levers can be arranged so the bot activates and is destroyed with minimal risk.
  • Two grenades thrown at a lone Security Bot can be decisive if distance is maintained.
  • Environmental hazards (exposed live wires on Office Sector Level 2, electrified puddles on Level 3) repeatedly stun and quickly destroy them.
  • Security Bots can be traded with the Blacksmith for an Anvil by exchanging their CPU or processed components; the CPU is also a key source for crafting and trading loops.

Security Bots are a reliable early-to-mid game challenge that reward players with high material yields and useful consumables when handled with the correct tactics.
