Overview

The Peccary Sow is a hostile Peccary variant found in several late- and mid-game areas of Abiotic Factor, including the Wildlife Pen in Cascade Laboratories, the Adjustment Wing, the Hydroplant garage past the dam, and parts of Village Den da'ko Yeer. It is visually similar to a regular Peccary, but its purple-blue skin, skull-like face plate, protruding underbelly, visible teats, and bone protrusions make it easy to distinguish once seen up close.

Like other Peccaries, the Sow roams passively until it becomes hostile. It will attack the player, Order soldiers, other entities, and deployable objects placed by the player. It normally cannot open doors, but it can do so while in a hostile state. It also occasionally spawns Tainted Carbuncles on the floor, which can turn its encounters into clustered fights when it appears in populated areas.

Its combat behavior changes with distance. The Sow is the only Peccary variant with a ranged attack, making it more dangerous than the standard type at medium range.

  • At roughly 8–9 Storage Crates away, it may use a ranged attack or a tackle attack.
    • The ranged attack can be dodged by side-stepping.
    • The ranged attack can also be blocked with a shield.
    • The tackle attack can be dodged by side-stepping.
  • At less than 8–9 Storage Crates away, it uses a melee attack.
    • The melee attack cannot be dodged.
    • It can be blocked with a shield.
  • If the player keeps running after the initial engagement, it can follow up with a jump attack after about 2–3 seconds.
    • This can be avoided by maintaining distance and running sideways.

The Peccary Sow’s harvestable drops make it a useful target even when it is not needed for combat progression. It can drop Raw Peccary Chop, Milk Sac, Leather Scrap, Raw Alien Drumstick, and Sow Skull. The Milk Sac is a guaranteed drop in small quantity, while the other items follow their listed chances.

The GATE Compendium identifies it as IS-0178-F and notes that standard containment design is sufficient, but special precautions apply when handling its bodily fluids. In practical terms, it is treated as a biohazard-like alien creature rather than a simple animal analogue, which fits its unusual anatomy and hostile behavior.

  • Raw Peccary Chop: 100%
  • Milk Sac: 100% of 1, with a 25% chance of 1–2
  • Leather Scrap: 100%
  • Raw Alien Drumstick: 50%
  • Sow Skull: 50%

Its name follows the Peccary naming theme, and the Sow is the larger, more dangerous variant in that family.
