Alpha Peccary
Overview
Alpha Peccary is a large hostile creature designated Thela (AG/PY) and catalogued as IS-0178-E in GATE compendia. It appears in multiple outdoor and facility locations and is notable for its increased size compared to baseline Peccaries. The Alpha Peccary engages players with distance-dependent attack patterns, drops several reliable resources when killed, and is significant to compendium progression and certain unlockable recipes.
Alpha Peccary encounters occur in a variety of fixed spawn points across the world. Known spawn locations include the center of the Wildlife Pens in Cascade Laboratories; together with an

Combat behavior is governed by the player’s distance and movement at the time of engagement:
- At long range (roughly beyond 8–9 storage crates), the Alpha Peccary uses a tackle attack that can be evaded by side-stepping.
- At close range (within about 8–9 storage crates), it switches to a melee attack that cannot be dodged but can be blocked with a shield.
- If the player continues to run after initial engagement, the creature may perform a jump attack after 2–3 seconds; this jump can be avoided by maintaining distance and running sideways.
Harvestable drops are highly reliable and important for crafting and progression:
- Peccary Alpha Skull — 100% drop rate.
- Raw Peccary Chop — 100% drop rate.
- Milk Sac — guaranteed at least one; additional chance structure listed as 100% of 1 and 25% of 1–2 in records.
- Raw Alien Drumstick — 50% chance.
The Alpha Peccary’s designation in containment files emphasizes its size. While standard IS-0178 containment practices are considered acceptable, researchers have documented that its larger body often requires containment areas exceeding 3×3 meters. Discussion of “ethical” containment for IS-class entities is noted as a relatively recent and debated trend within GATE research frameworks.
Progression and miscellaneous notes:
- Killing 500 Peccaries and obtaining all other compendium entries unlocks a related recipe tied to the Peccary entries.
- The Peccary name is drawn from the real-world peccary; the in-game Alpha Peccary is larger than its namesake, a disparity that was initially underestimated when observations were made from a distance.
Practical tactics when facing an Alpha Peccary include keeping a clear line of retreat to exploit its distance-based attack transitions, using a shield at close range to block unavoidable melee strikes, and sidestepping or lateral movement to dodge tackle and jump attacks. Because core drops are nearly guaranteed, Alpha Peccaries are reliable targets for obtaining skulls, meat, and milk sacs.
