Official description

The Clericum are those members of the Order entrusted to guard and grow the knowledge accumulated by the sect over more than two millennia.

Trained from youth to protect, process and promulgate information from the Order's extraordinary archives, the Clericum exist in order to serve and sustain the Great Library and its many subsidiary archives.

While no individual Clericus ever sees combat, the intelligence and advice they provide to those in the field is indispensable: experts in translation and hermeneutics, masters of archival research and practices, artists of exegesis and accession, the Clericum's dedication underwrites the very existence of the Order itself.

Overview

Archivists are non-hostile members of the Clericum who serve as the custodians and scholars of the Order’s Great Library and its subsidiary archives. They appear in the Praetorium library where they are commonly seen wandering the stacks or at work processing and maintaining the Order’s collections. Archivists embody the Clericum’s role: trained from youth to protect, process and promulgate the sect’s amassed knowledge, they specialize in translation, hermeneutics, archival research, exegesis and accession. Individual Archivists do not engage in combat; their primary function is informational and custodial support for the Order.

When an Archivist detects a player they do not fight back. Instead, they play a “fear” animation and flee from the player; they will never initiate or return an attack. This fleeing behavior makes them persistent non-combatants in areas where knowledge and archive-management are the focus of the environment rather than conflict.

Archivists have several guaranteed and chance-based loot sources. They always drop a Purported Grimoire and Tactical Scrap. There is a 10% chance to drop a Lodestone Fragment and a 5% chance to drop an Ornate Key. In addition to these standard drops, Archivists yield a harvestable Human Skull at 100% chance. These drops reflect both their archival role and the occasional valuable artifact or material attached to their person or station.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • Location: Found in the Praetorium library and related archive rooms; they patrol or work among shelves and reading areas rather than occupying battle zones.
  • Combat role: Non-aggressive — upon player detection they perform a fear animation and run away; they do not attack under any circumstances.
  • Drops: Guaranteed Purported Grimoire and Tactical Scrap; Lodestone Fragment (10%), Ornate Key (5%). Harvestable Human Skull is obtainable at 100%.
  • Use in gameplay: Archivists are sources of lore-related items and occasional key components; because they flee rather than fight, players must chase or corner them if a specific drop or harvestable is required.
  • Lore context: Archivists represent the Clericum’s scholarly caste—custodians of two millennia of accumulated knowledge whose expertise supports the Order’s field agents even though they themselves avoid combat.

All behavioral and loot characteristics are consistent with the Clericum’s depiction as non-combatant archivists whose dedication underwrites the Order’s informational infrastructure.
