Overview

The Skink is a small extremophile creature designated IS-0128, native to Anteverse 21 and strongly associated with radioactive environments. It appears around pools of radioactive waste and is noted for an acidic regurgitation that staff and players are advised to avoid. Containment in research settings is achieved temporarily with high-strength netting and electrical discharge; repeated shocks render the creature safe to pick up for a short time.

Skinks are normally encountered alone or in small groups and will attack any nearby character regardless of relative threat. Their attack is a ranged acidic projectile with a short-to-medium effective range; the attack deals low damage and is classified as a low danger, primarily an annoyance. Skinks move at a fast walking pace and typically attempt to move away from players rather than closing to melee.

Although fragile compared to later threats, Skinks pose minor tactical considerations. Preferred tactics emphasize killing them quickly from range to avoid extended chases, and sidestepping their acid projectiles effectively avoids damage. Both ranged and melee weapons are viable depending on player preference; shields can block their projectiles when timed correctly.

  • Combat profile: ranged acid attack, short-to-medium range, low damage.
  • Movement: fast walk speed; generally flees from the player.
  • Common locations: near pools or deposits of radioactive waste.

Skinks drop consistent harvests when killed: Skink Skull, Raw Skink Meat, and Green Fish Liver always drop; Fish Bones drop about half the time; Radfish is an uncommon additional drop. Tamed Skinks occasionally defecate and drop two Vibrant Feces, which can be collected using scrap plastic.

Taming and capture interactions are supported in several ways noted by players and documentation: stunning effects allow taming when Skinks are at low health; repeated nonlethal interactions can induce self-taming behavior; and certain capture tools enable taking a live Skink. Because the creature is fragile, employing nonlethal crowd-control or capture tools from a distance preserves drops and enables taming.

Skinks are described in localization text as a charming, elongated companion that can become useful when outfitted with appropriate motivational attachments, indicating a companion or utility role when kept and managed by the player.
