Coworker
Overview
The Coworker is a passive creature found throughout the game, often inside Toolboxes. It behaves like a lost office worker rather than a hostile entity: when a player is nearby in an area where it can spawn, it will crawl around at random, slowly move toward players, and repeatedly ask to be fed while spouting office-worker clichés. It is not dangerous to the player aside from its terrible jokes.
The Coworker can be fed any edible item except anything that causes Sick or Death. Once it has accepted a given item, it will not accept that same item again. It also accepts fluids, but if a drink is given in a container, it takes the container too. Feeding it can reward useful office supplies: it may drop a Stapler on the first or second feeding, and after being fed three times it will always drop Pens. These two rewards are not mutually exclusive.
- Feeding a
Mug of Coffee grants the Coffee in the Coffee Hole achievement.
- The Coworker can open doors, but does not appear to do so while fleeing.
- If the player wears a Larva Suit, the Coworker will occasionally react with “Take that off.”
- At 6 AM, it rapidly crawls away and disappears.
In the GATE Compendium, the Coworker is designated IS-0223 and described as a subject staff should treat as a legitimate employee if encountered. The compendium entry also instructs personnel not to question or interrogate it, and to provide food if requested.
Its appearance is that of a GATE employee: Alessandro head, clean-cut light brown hair, a GATE labcoat over a Banana shirt, pale blue pants, standard belt, white boots, and a Research Division ID card. Community nicknames for the creature include Jerome, John, Jensen, Jeff, Jim, and Steve.
