Mushroom Carbuncle
DESIGNATION: Sanc (AG/IN)
CONTAINMENT PROTOCOL: All storage locations for IS-0171-B must be fully hermetically sealed and all research personnel interacting with live subjects must wear micro-grade, corrosion resistant oxygen filters at all times. All equipment must be irradiated and decontaminated in accordance with GISP anti-hyphatic procedures.
A variant of IS-0171 endemic to the Mycofields of Anteverse 2, the Mushroom Carbuncle ejects a plume of toxic spores when approached. While the exact factors contributing to the creature's evolution are unclear, Dr. Petra Peters is pursuing research into the epigenetic effects of spore exposure. The creature also produces a fungus that is edible by humans when cooked.
Overview
The Mushroom Carbuncle is a hostile creature found in the Mycofields of Anteverse 2. It is a variant of IS-0171 and is notable for releasing a plume of toxic spores when approached. In the GATE Compendium, it is described as a fungus-bearing organism whose edible product can be consumed by humans when cooked.
In practice, the Mushroom Carbuncle is dangerous because it reacts to players at close range and can interrupt movement with a grab attack. It targets players who are walking or running within roughly 3–4 storage crate widths, but it does not attack when approached while crouching. Its grab cannot be dodged and applies a severe movement speed slowdown for 15 seconds, so staying mobile without crouching is a poor way to close distance safely.
- The creature’s detection range is about 3–4 storage crate widths.
- Crouching lets you approach without triggering its attack.
- Its grab attack cannot be dodged.
- Being grabbed slows movement speed significantly for 15 seconds.
- Approaching too closely may also expose the player to its toxic spore emission.
The Mushroom Carbuncle drops two harvestable items at a 100% rate: Raw Carbuncle and
