Official description

A pellucid blade made from the knapped crystal remains of IS-0139, fragile but expertly balanced for throwing.

Overview

The Throwing Crystal is a fragile, pellucid blade crafted from the knapped crystal remains of IS-0139. It appears in multiple areas of the game world as both a pickup and a dropable fragment: it can be exchanged by trading an Anteverse Gem at a Quantum Exchanger in the Cascade Laboratories (level 2, in the hallway lined with dead soldiers near the Laser Lab), and it is also a common destruction drop from CRT Monitors found throughout the game.

CRT Monitors that yield a Throwing Crystal are located across several Main World and Portal World zones. Notable Main World locations include multiple rooms in the Cascade Laboratories (level 2 particle lab; an upstairs room near the lobby and toilets; the Control Center), Hydroplant (Electrical Station), several rooms across the Reactors (Mist, Dusk and Gale Reactor areas, including laboratory rooms, rooms with filing cabinets and benches, and a locked glass-door room accessible via a vent and fan sequence), and in the Fragments area (Botanical Wing). In Portal World locations, CRT Monitors that drop Throwing Crystals are found throughout the first floor of Rise.

In use, the Throwing Crystal functions as a standard thrown weapon with melee capability. Its primary attack is a basic stab that consumes one projectile per strike; the secondary action readies the blade to be thrown. The item is fragile, so expect limited durability compared with sturdier blades, but it is expertly balanced for ranged use. The Throwing Crystal can also be used to harvest remains.

Practical notes for players:

  • Acquisition: If you have an Anteverse Gem and access to the Quantum Exchanger in Cascade Laboratories (level 2 corridor near the Laser Lab), you can reliably obtain a Throwing Crystal through exchange. Otherwise, focus on destroying CRT Monitors in the listed locations to farm additional copies.
  • Combat role: Use the stab when you need rapid, low-cost melee hits (each stab uses one projectile). Switch to the secondary action to throw the blade for a ranged strike when distancing or finishing fleeing enemies is needed.
  • Durability and replacement: The Throwing Crystal is fragile; treat individual pieces as expendable thrown projectiles rather than long-term melee mainstays. Keep spares by farming CRT Monitors or exchanging spare Anteverse Gems.
  • Utility: Beyond combat, the Throwing Crystal is useful for harvesting remains, offering a dual-purpose tool for exploration and resource collection.
